Can someone give me a link to some good videos on straightening stick arrow shafts? Just can't afford those dowels.

I've made a few videos on the subject.  I'm straightening reed (in the video below) but the same principles apply to shoots and cane.

Check out our "How To" section. There are some arrow making threads there. Patrick(Jackcrafty) has a few there himself.
