Title: Hawk and 2 blades
Post by: bushman on December 22, 2011, 01:00:26 am
Here are a few pictures. First is a ground slate hawk (it was already in that shape, I just squared up the back end and ground the blade but I got fix the bevel on the right bottom corner). Next is a small blade. Last is a bigger blade and the deer leg bone handle I’m going to scrimshaw that deer and elk into it, then hafted the blade. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for all the replies, means a lot coming from you guys.
StevenT, ya it does look like ivory.
All I did to prep it was cut off the ends when it was fresh, push out the marrow, put it in warm water and let is soak for a few days, then change the water and repeat a few times, then I let it age for a year. Cut it to length, shaped it with a rasp and sandpaper. Then just used smoother and smoother sandpaper to polish it, last was 2000 grit emery paper and I used it wet under a slow trickle of warm water.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.
