Here is some christmas cheer for my good old friend Chad. He is new to stickbows and the only requirement he set out for me was to make sure it could take a deer :) and so i thought he could use a shorter bow for use from a stand or tight brush. I have a large 60 inch piece of white oak 2.5 x 6 and after my first failed slat bow and a span of 6 months or so, i thought it was time to fire up the bandsaw and try again.
59 1/2 tip to tip, 58 ntn, 55 lbs at 26", it is 2 1/8 wide at the widest, tapering to 1 1/2 sweeping to 1/2 inch about 7inches from the tip, jussst over 1/4 inch at the tip. it bends just a tad through the handle, feelin it at about 20 inches. i just finished my 4th round of sanding and have shot it about 60 times. i am going to wrap the ends of the rawhide with superglue soaked string to make sure they dont lift. I added a thin red oak lam an a layer of superglue soaked leather to the handle to thicken/stiffen it up. still deciding on the final handle job and finish coats, i will deal with that tomorrow :)

Very nice. I like it. If anything I would have suggested a little more bend at midlimb but you still did an excellent job. Bet it shoots great.

Chad is a lucky fellow. Nice use of white oak and fine detail on the narrow tips.
-
Sweet and simple, I like it.

Very nice looking bow, well done. :)

Looks great, nice job!

Nice job, looks like a deer-slayer to me. Chad should be happy with it.
-
Nice little bow! Looks like it took surprisingly little set considering its draw weight and the length of the actual working part of the limbs.
-
Thanks for all the kind words guys :D It is still a tad heavy so i can make some smaller adjustments.
Ryoon - i think a few scrapes from midlimb out is in order. i wanted a little more bend near the hanndle to keep the string angle lower, but they do seem too flat from midlimb to the narrowing of the tip.
Thought that since i tend to make adjustments after hearing what you experienced guys have to say, i would post this one b4 i put the finish on. im a sucker for finiishing a bow early and finding that one limb (usually the bottom limb) is pullin out a bit, or finding that subtle stiff spot.

Very nice work, really like the mollies and that is a fine example

That's a great Mollegabet! I bet it shoots real nice.

Great looking bow and nice tiller. Looks like it would be fast. Well done.
-
Should be a good shooter....if your gonna scrape mid limb out, then I would side tiller as it'll take off more mass. And it looks like you would be ok taking off some more width out there without taking any more set in that area, because most of your set came from the inner half of your limbs. Finnish her off and make another ;)

Nice bow, excellent tiller. I wouldn't scrape anything from those limbs. Holmegaard tiller always looks like it's bending more at the fades because of the non-bending outer limbs.
I don't see the rawhide backing??

Nice bow! :) I like the tips ;)

nice looking bow, I agree with adb, those levers are allways a little stiff as per the design, Bub
