Title: A tradition of giving... or non-subscribers, you gotta read this!!!
Post by: JW_Halverson on October 31, 2011, 07:47:07 pm
This forum has a great tradition of giving.  Sharing is the norm, and people are wonderfully generous.  I've been the recipient of some of that generosity and I've passed some along.

On another forum where I have been known to lurk there is a tradition similar to what the natives of the Northwest do....they do a give-away when someone reaches a milestone.  On that forum, when someone reaches a milestone in regards to posting they announce that they are offering item to give away and they find someone to give it to.  Well, I'm hoping to start that tradition here to celebrate passing my 2,000th post.

But my give-away is in the form of a contest.  I have talked this over with some moderators and Admins as well as staff at Primitive Archer Magazine, they agreed as long as I make it known I'm doing this and not the magazine or the admins/moderators.  I am going to pay for a year's subscription to PA for someone that starts a new subscription.  It's strange to me, but some people in here don't have subscriptions!!!  Well here's your chance to double your 'scrip!  The rules are as follows:

1) New subscriptions only
2) Send me a PM with your subscription number (gotta have some kind of proof)
3) Ya got 14 days to get it done, starting now!  Monday, November 15th, noon cutoff!

Trust me, you will be a winner even if I don't draw your name. Primitive Archer Magazine is well worth it

I have never made so little money as I have in the last two years but I can't tell you how wonderfully blessed I have been.

A large part of that is due to the many friends I have made in this forum.  I wanted to give a little something back and show the people at Primitive Archer Magazine a little love, too.

Come on, let's see some people pony up a subscription!

I love this idea. I would like to see this become a tradition that builds an even better community by everyone participating, voluntarily of course. I passed 2000 a long time ago, so I am putting up another subscription. I talked to JW and he is going to build a list and pick the name of his lucky recipient, then he is going to pick another lucky person and I will do the same. That means that two lucky people are going to get their subscription doubled. Just send the information that was requested to JW and he will add you to the list.

Justin again proves the quality of the people that post on this Forum.

All we need now are for some people to step up to claim the prize!

Well, I talked omeone into buying two new ones this year for an Osage bow I'm working on for a Childrens Hospital Auction in the Spring. Like Justin I'm well past 2000, but, I'll play, too.

All right, that's three people that can get their subscriptions DOUBLED.

At this time the score stands:
3 offers
0 takers

If you ever thought you should get a subscription now is definitely your best deal ever!

I have yet to get a single entry!  Does EVERYONE on here have a subscription already?  I'm adding a blurb to the title of this thread to maybe draw some more interest.  So far this ain't costing me a thing.

I kinda feel like the waiter that worked on the Titanic.  He swims up to one of the passengers and asks, "Would you like more ice for your drink, sir?"        :o

 John,
Since the response is kinda slow here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna buy a two year subscription for the Barber Shop I go to. I've been dropping off my old Primitive Archer magazines and everybody wants to know when I'll bring more. It's an old fashion Barber Shop that has only, Hot Rod, Car&Driver, American Rifleman, and hunting magazines along with Andy Of Mayberry on the TV.

My kinda place to go for a haircut.  Yeah, I get haircuts, I don't get "styled".  When I hire a publicist then I will start getting "styled".

Ya'll need to post this on all the pages.  Blows my mind no one has jumped on this.  I've been subscribin' for about 4 years and get them on the 3 year plan.  COME ON non-subscribers, this is a freakin' deal!!!  There is one more post for me.   ;D

We have our first contestant!!!  At this time he's pretty much guaranteed to double his subscription unless we get a last minute flush of subscriptions.

Yes, and they better hurry. If not I will do like Eddie and give a subscription to my dentist. He shoots a longbow that I made for him a few years ago so I know he will appreciate it.

All right folks, the results are in and the winners have been chosen.  The results were verified by the fine staff of Primitive Archer Magazine, who shall remain anonymous, but we all know as Calendargirl.   >:D  (Thanks Marie for taking on this task along with all the other stuff you are doing.)

The winners are, in no particular odor, I mean order:

Fishfinder401
JimBob, formerly txbandit

Thank you everyone for helping me celebrate my 2,000th post on here.  I enjoy the company of you all, even those with whom I have disagreed.  I have learned a great deal from all that post in here and get a great deal of encouragement to continue scraping bows.  I look forward to my 3,000th post and I'll have to think of something else to give away to celebrate!

Thanks for supporting PA in this way John. You have definately set the bar a little higher for all of us to try to achieve.  8)
I am amazed that not more folks participated in this.  :o Go figure!!!

It really wasn't my support of PA Magazine that prompted this, but I was thinking of something I could give away that any recipient would appreciate.  I thought about one of my bows, but everyone here makes bows.  I thought about my homemade wine and realized there was a pile o' legalities I'd rather avoid.  All in all, I just thought the subscription would be a nice little kicker.

Thanks everyone for being so supportive, thanks to all who purchased subscriptions, too.  I used to be one of those that always bought my copy from the local drugstore because 1)they were local 2)it encourages them to stock PA so other people might see it.  But then I found out that magazines at best recover only their costs through magazine stands, quite a few don't even break even on them!  It's the subscriptions and the advertising that pays their bills and keeps 'em open to get the next issue out the door.
