Well I finally did it! Perfect 25yd double lung shot on this little doe! I recently got access to a great little property in Montgomery Co. thats covered up in deer, on my second hunt I scored. :) I want to thank SAWFILER for the point used, and Pearl Drums for the arrow shaft. They were a deadly combination!! She didnt go far, and as you can see the stone point really did a number on her. I had three does come in on me bout an hour before dark, this one happened to stop to feed in just the right spot. I had one little opening through the trees (right where Im pointing in the pic) she put her head down and her leg forward. I pulled up and shot all in one motion, the rest is history. I field dressed her with a flint flake and even felt compelled to take a bite out of the heart. MAN what a great day in the woods!! Like Pappy says "LIFE IS GOOD" :) :) :)

Well that's just awesome Will! Congrats, I have not shot one yet, hoping to get out again this weekend. That's pretty amazing that a piece of wood that old can still make some meat.

Very nice!! Great shot!! Really like the stone and bow!!!
Looked at a hedge post the other day at worked and wondered??? It was a really crappy looking post!!LOL
-
Thanks you guys! Iowell, if that post is osage the wood is probably still good no matter how ugly it is. I made this bow from a thick osage post that found. It looked like crap on the outside but I was still able to sister billets from it. Some of the hardest best working osage Ive ever had. Anyway, good luck this weekend Dave!

Thanks again you guys! Shannon the point worked perfect! Arrow buried up to the fletchings, when she turned to run back in the woods I could see lots of blood and arrow on the other side. The arrow made a bunch of racket as she ran through a thicket hitting every branch along the way. It was dark when by the time I found her and unfortunately I havent found the arrow yet. I plan on getting back out there as soon as I can to find it. It went between the ribs on the entrance side and broke a rib upon exiting. I bet it held up good though being as it was from that tough TX rock. Ill definately keep you updated and post again when I find it! :)

I didn't have much luck finding the arrow today Shannon, hopefully I'll stumble on it another day. Thanks again pearly! That heavy ash is the ticket. Paul, pappy, bear, big a, mullet, Thanks! Oh and Greg, thanks so much for that skinnin knife! I put it to good use! Even better lookin with some blood on it ;) We had backstrap on the grill tonight. Delicious! Now all I need to do is tan the hide. I'm thinkin plains quiver. :) :) :)
-
Hey Will when you tan that hide would you do a how to Post?
-
Sure John. That's a great idea! I love "how to's" ;)
-
Good shooting and congrats...
I suppose if you make a video of tanning a hide, you can't put a disclaimer "no animals were harmed during the making of this video". Well, actually I guess that all happened "before" the video was started, so you could..hmmm
-
great.
