Title: cherry questions

i have the ability to get a pretty good size log of cherry not exactly which type  it being make me wonder is it worth savign from the fire pile to make some bows out of? we call tehm wild cherries her e i am guessing they will be either black cherries i believe due to the bark looking more like a oak tree.

Cherry, if you can get it all the way to bow form without exploding, makes a fine bow.  It's light and quick for its draw weight.  However, it's tension weak and typically needs a backing.  Rawhide works well.  All in all, a good bow wood though. Kinda tough to get to work right.

ok i will try it just have to get it cut out and then split do you use the sap wood or the heart wood or a little of both with cherry?
