Being an active drummer I end up with piles of "used" drum heads. The modern drum heads rarely break or tear if tuned and treated properly. I dont play like a gorilla either, so they saty put until I cant keep them tuned to my liking. Then I repalce them. Here is my idea. I use clear, single ply heads. I am going to back a bow with some of them and see what happens. The heads are designed to stretch like crazy without breaking. I see no good reason a guy couldnt hold some splinters down and still be able to see your bows true color, stained or not. Call me crazy.........the clarified calf skin thing triggered this idea by the way.

What are they made of? What kind of glue will work?
-
They are some type of plastic polymer Justin, trade secret I guess. I see no reason TBIII wont work. That stuff has stuck to anything I have used it for. The glue color is the only drawback, perhaps white glue would be better for that reason. The heads are designed to stretch like crazy and snap back to shape quick. I wouldnt be suprised if it works every bit as good as sinew does without the hassle (curse me now!). And of course they are 100% water proof.

Duhhhh! I just got it, Pearl brand drums. I was thinking pearl drums as a euphamism for speaking...playing the pearl drums.

Hmmm...
My djembe are currently wearing goat skins...
Which may one day find their way to the back of a bow.
I guess if they are synthetic they would be water proof?

Thats what I was thinking Gus. Waterproof, incredibly strong and resilient. What else does a back need to be? Its not very primitive or even traditional. But I bet it would work dandy.

Great. Now I've got to go back a bow with used git-tar strings. ;D

Nylon classical guitar strings would work wouldnt they Hillbilly? Experimenting is half the fun of archery.

Can these drum heads be stitched together? Might make an interesting quiver. If not then gluing opens up a lot of possibilities.
