Title: Rare Find
Post by: Will H on September 10, 2011, 09:05:32 pm
I went up another creek this afternoon lookin for some more stuff to break. At one point I took my backpack off to take another look at my rocks and laying there just inches from my pack was this blade!! :o This is the second arrowhead Ive ever found. I found my first when I was 11 on the banks of the Arkansas River...anyway. It made my day!  ;D Do any of you guys know what type of point  this is? The blade is 4 9/16" Long x 1 5/16" Wide x 3/8" Thick

Will, that's a really nice blade, an I can't help to wonder it's owner was doing the same thing as you, lookin for good stone. Dover is one of my favorite materials, Points just look old when I use dover. Bob

I know what u mean bob. I wondered the same thing on my way back. It gave me some extra motivation to look harder even though I was lugging 30lbs on my back.  ;)

I looked in my Overstreet book and you know it is hard to ID they say the details are a Blank. the best guess for me is a Friday blade but the bottom corners are worked into opposite flake patterns and it looked well used.

That's a nice find, with nice patina. I'd say it is unfinished. I don't think he finished the base.

I'm with Eddie on that one. Just looks like a utilitarian blade...not really a "type"...just a blade.  Nice though 8)

Thanks y'all. My first thought when I looked it over is that it was unfinished. I wonder how old it is?

Hard to tell without a base. Since it looks like one was about to be started, I'd call it Stemmed Archaic time period.

Thats awesome Will! You'd think all the time i spent splunkin around i might have found an arrowhead or something. Well, i take that back i did find an artifact. Rough worked bi-face about the size of yours there, it's buried in my bucket somewhere.

Hmmm Will this might be a long shot but my neighbor found a real nice biface like that once and an old fella told hem to go back to the location and look again where it might have washed out from. He did just that and found about 12 or 13 more.  I have one of them, if you like I can post it.
