Patrick, have I ever told you that you're my hero? lol

I, along with a handful of a few others, have gotten to witness you in action from making arrows, to making a black locust bow, to heads galore, and lucky enough to own a head (two actually) that you have made. Unreal at the skill and talent you posess in whatever it is that you go after!

Just let me tag along and watch ya at Twin Oaks again next year and we'll call it even.  :o

I doubt you recall, but I borrowed a hammer stone for a tough to remove flake at Twin Oaks while mine was temporarily misplaced. I remember commenting on it and liking it a lot because it was it small but HEAVY.....guess what I found after shamelessly trolling through any and every landscaping I could find with small round rocks?

Great videos!

Your flakes seem to come off so easily. I tried messing around with rock for the first time a couple weekends ago, and the flakes are both tiny and rarely occurring. It seems as if I'm, quite literally, just banging a couple rocks together. I have not heated the rock however, and I'm wondering if that is the difference maker, though I'm pretty sure my angles and platforms aren't the best either, though I tried to go slow. I'm definitely doing something wrong and I have no idea what it is.

Bryce, you probably have some tough rock if the flakes are hard to remove.  Get some thick glass and try it again.  Good flint will be somewhere between glass and tough rock.  Obsidian will be just like glass.

Heat treated stone is my favorite stuff now but it took a while for me to take the time to learn how to heat it.  I should have started with the heat treating sooner!

Justin, what did you find?  Hopefully some good hammerstones and not a mall cop... ;D

Couple basalt hammerstones little bigger than a golfball. Love em
