Finally finished this one off. I started it back in march this year. 54" ntn sinewed hophornbeam. 1 5/16" handle,1 3/4"+ out of the fades,1/4" tips(padauk) at very end,3 courses of sinew down the center of the crown, slight R/D profile, and 55lbs@24" bend thru the handle bow.
First time I was shooting it in an unseen punky spot caused a a cave in near the tip on my tenth shot. Arggh...so 2 weeks later I ground it out and patched it with an ipe underlay. Then on recommencing shooting it in my tiller had changed again. Arggh...So I set it aside to fully season for several months till this week. I corrected it and shot it in for the third time and finally she's holding steady now. About time. Tiller is a hair off for my profile, but its good enough for me,so no need to mention where I could tweak it(I know) and I also was hoping to retain more reflex in my profile...oh well. Live n learn.

Thanks for checking it out....Chris

Nice!!! That's a beauty. I was planning on picking up some padauk in the morning. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep up the good work Chris.
Tattoo Dave
-
I really like that! Very well done! The tiller is slightly off for the particular profile you have there :D just kidding! I think it looks great! We are always our own worst crittic, I think the tiller looks nice. :)
Josh
-
Yea, I don't see any tiller issues at all. Looks like a real nice bow. I think we should put that finger balance shot in as a requirement for all future bows...O wait, then I'd have to do it. Perhaps not.
George
-
Looks sweet unbraced, braced and full draw. how did you stain it? belly and back look different than the sides......I like it. :)
-
I really like this bow Chris. Good job!
-
Looks great Chris....I really like the finish work!!! Elk tracker is right on the money when he says we are always our worst critic....Its not to often you,,,I,,,us finish one out and not wish we did something different ....but the only one that knows that is yourself. Looks awesome to me....Well done buddy
Jon
-
Looks good to me. I like the color, too.
John
-
Chris: Doesn't look all that fugly to me. Actually, I think its a nice looking bow. For me, there's something about a pyramid shaped bow.
-
Thanks Dave...the padauk sure is nice for tips and handle overlays
Thanks josh..I am a horrible critic ...lol
Thanks George....lol....you crack me up
Thanks Eric...I dyed the bow. I colored the sides black, the belly brown, the sinew stripe a dark fleshy bloody red,and the rest of the back a fiery orangish red.
Thanks jonw
Thanks jon(buddy)...yeah no one sees what I went thru with it and only the end product. Which I do agree turned out nice in the end. Looks different than the last time you saw it huh. Im sure you'll be seeing her dressed up in the near future ;)
Thanks John(hawkshaman)
Thanks a lot Matt ;)
-
Man shoot, that thing looks pretty good to me! I like the looks of it. How is the performance?
-
i think the bow looks damn fine great tiller ...however i thought i had stumbled on the playgirl thread with all that xrated content. >:D least your not a plumber as well
-
Yes Sir,
That is one fine looking bow.
-gus
-
Wow bud, Fugly huh? Don't think so...really like everything about this stick. What are her stats?
Oh...and WHAT IS WITH all the dang facial hair? Looks like a beaver died on your face >:D
-
Looking gooood!!! And the bow is not bad ether. LoL :D ;)
-
You guys just kill me, :o that looks great to me,Maybe I just don't know what a bow is supposed to look like, :-[ :-[tiller looks good and finish work is excellent. Don't know how you could ask for much more from a wood bow. Nice job.
Pappy
-
awesome looking bow :D
-
Man thats nice, love the tiller. I give up too easy on bows that have a problem i must learn to be more inventive with repairs.
-
Thanks James(beetle)...I haven't sent it thru the chrony yet,but the arrows seem to hit hard n flat enough for me.
Thanks ken.....lol...maybe next time ill wear a fruity colored speedo :o.....lol
Thank ya Gus
Thanks Lee...what else other than I haven't said wood you like to know??? And im just always too tired and lazy to shave. Lol...too busy with wood to shave.
Thanks soy
Lol Pappy....thanks. im just a really horrible critic. ;)
Thanks dazv
Thanks dwardo. Glad I didn't give up on her. But I did set her in the corner with a dunce cap a few times....lol
-
Nice bow Chris! Looks like a hunter to me.
-
Thanks ken.....lol...maybe next time ill wear a fruity colored speedo :o.....lol
Thanks for the warning!
Bow looks really good from here. It's always a pain when things don't go right and it seems the wood is fighting you at every turn. But when you finally wrangle it and convince that piece of wood that it needs to be a bow, the feeling of accomplishment is very satisfying. So I'd suggest stop criticizing and start enjoying! ;)
-
Blackhawk, I really like it, the two tone look is something special. I know you don't want/need critics (especially from me) so I'll ask you to criticize my observation so I can tune my own skill because I'm a rookie. The top limb looks stiffer than the bottom?
Also noticed you said 55@24", is 24 your draw?
Nice bow, I don't know that I'll ever be that good.
Gary
-
That looks gorgeous at full draw.
You should tighten up those obs tho' O:)
Del
-
Thanks chris
Thanks Matt...im also being harshly sarcastic with myself. But believe me I am enjoying this.....IMMENSELY
Thanks Gary...keep building n you'll get better than me. I used to say the same thing about hoping to be as good as guys I looked up too(and still do) the tiller is opposite of what you said. Its a hair weaker than the bottom at full draw, but if you look at the brace its pretty dead even. And my draw length depends on what type o bow im shooting. With a short bendy like this 24" is my draw length. Im about 26" with a normal stiff handled bow. 29" with a g!#$# bow n I wont mention the other forbidden cuss word...lol
Thanks Del.....lol. ill lose that gut after me wife pops out our 4th child. Im gaining sympathy weight..lol  I may be laughing but I seriously have gained 9 lbs since she got prego. Lol
-
if that bows fugly it must be closeing time cause she's lookin pretty good to me, Bub
-
Lol bubby....good one....thanks. :)
Here's a couple shots of the handle area. First one is in a mirror and shows the back and belly at the same time. Second one is a side view shot. I glued and used dr scholls insoles to fill the handle area and wrapped it with black leather. Feels great.<br />

It was good to meet ya at flint ridge , we need to come up with a way to recognise other PA folks at events as I'm sure others were there !
Guy
-
Thank ya Jawge
Thanks Guy...it was good to meet ya too. :) I did see n talk to a couple other PA guys there. But,yeah im sure and know there was more there that we didn't see/meet/find out who's who. Its always fun going to events and being able to meet some of the guys here that ya frequently talk too.
-
how does someone always manages to hit on the shirtless bow presenter lol
very nice bow. i'll have to use some of the padouk i have laying around.
-
Sweet bow dude! I especially like the story of how you stuck with it and stuck with it and kept sticking with it until you got the bow you wanted. I think it makes it that much better. Nice job man.
-
how does someone always manages to hit on the shirtless bow presenter lol
I don't know colt. Can't be my good looks because the fugly part was meant for me and not the bow..lol
Thanks arrowind...sometimes you just gotta stick with it in this trade
-
I'm not sure how I missed this one, must have been due to my lack of patience with mom and dad's dial-up connection while I was out hunting.
Anyway, this bow looks amazing! Well done!
-
Yeah, I missed this one. Glad I caught it cause this is a super looking bow.
One request,Chris. Can you possibly show a close-up of the tips? I really like 'em but ain't know how to do that.
Lane
-
Thanks cameroo
Lane...here's a better pic of the nocks I do. I just cut a couple small pieces of padauk and shaped em on the belt sander to fit over the back of the bow tip, glued and clamped em down with TB3, then reinforced em with serving and superglue. Pretty simple. I use these nocks on bow tips that are too narrow to side groove. Oh and thanks for the kind words sir.

Thank you Chris. I like that a lot and now that I know how you did it gotta try it.
Course it is deer season but that hornbeam stave we talked about a while ago is next in line...
