here is a hybrid scythian horn bow that i finished up this month,, after 8 months seasoning, it was a pleasure to see it come to a finish.. 49" tip to tip. 60#@27" so far,, im looking to have it draw out to 28" or 29" after it is shot in,, birch bark cover with scythian ram , horse and leapord on back of bow,, this bow really shoots great- no hand shock , dead quite, and fast... i may have to keep this one to hunt with this year.. james

James, do you happen to have any pics of this bow while you built up the core and pre-sinew? Very curious to see the shape.

Another awsome bow james, congrats on finishing her. The scythian design has always been my favorit for many reasons.
-
thanks to all ,, especially you pat, lets see the ugliest guy i know,, that would be a toss up between you and the old hippy- allen, i guess you two will have to draw straws >:D >:D
lee ,the pre sinewed core looks basically the same ,but with less reflex in the bending area, , after seasoning and before the first stringing, the bow had 5 to 6 times the amount of reflex in the limbs,, hope this helps,,,james

Wow. I always say that I want to build a horn bow like that...but, honestly, I just want to own one. That is beautiful.

Incredible!!! I really like the birch backing. I am sure a very sweet shooter. BRAVO!!!
-
Well...this was the one last piece of straw that broke the camels back. Yes lee I got the bug and now that I can speak I can say this finally broke me down and made me finally order Adam Karpowicz's book. Here's a link for anyone else who may be as inspired as me.

Im almost ready skill level to start the trial n error and long process of horn bows. What am I getting into now??? Lol.

if you are looking to try your hand at making horn bows, Adams book is the only way to go,, no other book will have the tech info that his has, all other books are lacking in several area,, after you start their is only one other thing you will need(PERSAVERANCE)

Great looking bow James. That sure is a long time to wait to shoot the bow for the first time. Don't know if I can wait that long.
Take care,
Randy
-
James you are fast becoming the master of the horn bows. Another incredible bow and definitely my favorite that you have made so far. Well done
-
I am not expert for this kind of bow but this is fantastic to me!
-
Wow, that bow is really something. Must be interesting bracing something like that.
-
FANTASTIC.
-
It's pretty much been said, but those bows have got to represent the pinnacle of the Bowyers art.
So yup, I'll doubtless find myself having a go sometime...
So many bows, so little time ::)
Great bow.

I bought the book. 1/2 way through it. Got some horn. I'm diving in...

AWESOME BOW! I'm a total beginner and the bows that you turn out leave me shaking my head. If I can learn just a fraction of what you know about building bows someday, I'll be a happy man.

Too bad you live 2+ hrs away...we could work on a few together. Where'd you pick up your horn?
-
James...one awesome bow! I like the leverage on those limbs and the art work is exquisite. Truly a work of art!
-
James, that is an outstanding bow. You are a true craftsman! ;)
Thanks for sharing, Leonard
