Title: Oregon white oak vs white oak from the midwest

  I was just wondering if anybody out there would know if there are any distinct differences between oregon white oak and white oak grown here in the midwest(wisconsin).  I would like to obtain some locally, however, the white oak trees that I know of around here are on land where cutting is not allowed but I have found a source of oregon white oak on the west coast.  Any info on the differences between the two as far as bow making characteristics/properties would be concerned would be appreciated.

There are various species that have been called "white oak".  Live oak is considered a white oak, for example.  The only advice I can give is to NOT buy wood sight unseen.  I'm sure you can make it work, but it might not be worth the time and expense if the wood is not cooperative.
