Traded last year at MOJam with Keith F from Washington for these staves - one vine maple one yew. Recently made these bows:
Vine maple 67" 33# @ 28" kingwood tips double shelf deerskin stitched handle. Very easy to shoot with good manners - an all day target bow and great for starting newbees out with good form.
Yew 64" 53# @ 28" with water buffalo tips and boa back. I thinned the sapwood and used the boa like rawhide backing. Double leather rests but did not want to cover the boa with a handle wrap. Sweet and very fast in my favorite hunting weight.

Nice work on both! I'll take one of each ;)
I've never heard of kingwood - the grain looks really good, and the color matches the handle wrap really well. Two thumbs up here :)

Those are some nice looking bows, nice work.

Sweet bows!
I have some boa and pythonskins and was wondering if they would act like rawhide as they are pretty thick, guess i got the answer :)
BTW im pretty sure your skin is Burmese python (Python molurus),not that it matters but perhaps fun to know.

Great looking bows Shaun. I bet that little Yew bow really smokes. I have had the chance just to work on Yew a couple of times but I sure like the way they shoot. Very snappy. I hope your friend brings a few more pices of Yew to Mojam. Like to pick up a shorter piece. Dean

I believe you are correct about the skin being a python. Got it from Bernard S who got it from a neighbors pet that croaked. It was big enough to do 4 bows (this is the 4th) and is about as thick and tough as deer rawhide. Was hoping to be at MOJam early but work has arrived and now I'll be there later than planned. Will bring the tipi if its more than just the weekend. See some of you there soon
