Hi. This seemed like the best place to introduce myself.
I am 15 years old, currently, but I have a passion for anything to do with wood working. I thought I'd make my first bow soon and it is going to be quite primitive probably. So I thought this forum would be good for any questions (or advice) that I have for making primitive archery equipment.
I am looking forward to becoming a member of the community. I may not be very active at first, posts-wise, but once I get a little more experienced I will post pictures/advice/etc. I am a respected member of several other forums, including an airgun forum and a slingshot forum, so I assure you there will be no pointless spam, etc.

Welcome! You've certainly come to the right place.
I would suggest starting out with a board bow. Check out Jawge's site - lots of good info there to get you started.

Yes, I was planning on buying an ash board (I have an easy supply) and making a pyramid bow. It will be my first, so I want to try and get it at around 40 lbs. I am looking forward to making it and I should be able to order the wood on tuesday. :)
I know lots of people on my slingshot forum that also make some pretty good bows, and they have given me lots of advice already. The only thing left to do is try it... I'm so eager! :)

Good plan. I don't know about the "ordering" idea though... you have to be pretty particular about the grain on the board, and if you're ordering it (unless it's from a bowyer or archery supplier), chances are you're going to end up with something less than ideal. Your best bet, if possible, would be to go through the stock at a local lumber yard or Home Depot to hand-pick something that's just what you need. Just a suggestion to save you some frustration...
Good luck!

if your gonna order it try and get fully quartersawn boards, tell them ya want good straight grain, and have some fun, Bub

Yo Panda! Welcome young man.
There are folks here that can answer all of your questions. The trick is to ask the right stuff. Reference books help.
Kinda interested in the slingshot deal. What site?

yeah, I'm also interested in the slingshot forum...... I love 'em ;D

That is a good idea about actually going and looking at the wood. I have told the supplier exactly how I'd like it, and I was going to go and pick it up myself, rather than have it delivered so hopefully it will be ok. I have no other place where I can buy good hardwoods around here.
For those of you who wanted info about the slingshot forum...
