Finally finished up the trade bow after a couple failures, I guess the third time is the charm. This is probably my best bow yet. It's hickory-backed osage with osage and african mahogany on the tips, and about 67"ntn. It pulls about 54lbs at 28 inches. This was also my first attempt at a Strunk-inspired handle wrap. The handle was built up with leather and wrapped with elk hide and kangaroo lace. It turned out ok, but I think I would do it a little different next time and space the lace holes out more to see the "X" pattern better on the stitches down the middle.
I want to thank George for the osage and Adam for the hickory backing strip.
Here are some pics. Comments/critiques welcome as always. I hope the recipient likes it.

You did well with that bow. I really like the profile.

Thanks for the kind words from all of you. I consider you guys to be veterans, and value your opinions a great deal. I was a little apprehensive about joining in on the swap, only having 3 bows under my belt at the time. In retrospect, the failures I had in trying to complete the bow for this swap each taught me a lesson or two, so in a way, I'm glad they happened. It just would have been nice if they happened before they were 95% complete. But I guess the effort put in previous to the cracks and explosions will help etch those lessons into the old noodle :P Which I guess is a part of what this whole swap is about. With each of the three previous attempts ( I said 2 earlier, but I forgot about the first light weight attempt), I got to experiment with different finishing details, different tiller shapes, and different woods. Now hopefully I can replicate this one with my remaining piece of osage and end up with another option for hunting this fall.
Gordon, I forgot to thank you for the "how-to" on the Strunk handle wrap. I modified it a bit, but what you gave me helped a lot!

cool beans 8), that turned out sweet, Bub

Nice work Cameroo :) im lovin the tips!

I likes it. That grip is stunning art work. I see only one flaw, if you don't mind a little critisisim. The rest is on the wrong dang side. I shoot right handed. Now you'll have to start allllllllllllll over again ;D
-
Hillbilly61, the shelf actually is for a righty - in the full draw pic the arrow is just resting on my finger because I'm backwards I guess :) So you gotta find something else to criticize :P

Looks great. Handle and tips are sweet. What are the other dimensions?
-

-
Cam that is one sweet looking bow. Very nice tiller and great looking package overall. Well done! Someone will be very pleased!
-
Excellent job, Cameroo!

Thanks again guys :)
What are the other dimensions?
4 1/2" Handle (1" wide), 3 3/4" fades (widening to 1 3/8"), 12" of parallel limbs, then tapering for the last 16" to 1/2" wide. At floor tillering, I started with 1" thick handle, about 7/8 at the end of the fade, and tapered the thickness from there to about 5/8 at the tips.
This is the generally the same front profile that I've been using for all my board bows so far. On one I tried wider limbs (1 5/8" for the parallel part, and went out 14 inches, then tapered the last 14 inches to 1/2) This was working great and reduced the set a bit, until one limb exploded from a pin knot grain swirl coming loose.
I also found that if tillering it to be a bend-through handle, it's better to make the handle 1 1/4" wide so the corners can be rounded of a bit without losing too much strength.
I forgot to mention earlier, this bow ended up taking about 3/4" of set, which is a lot less than my maple bows, which are usually around 1 to 1 1/4". It has a small amount of hand shock, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. Wish I had a chrono...
Well, I guess while I wait for the postal workers to stop sitting on their thumbs, I might as well make some "accessories" :)
