Title: boo backed yew laminate
Post by: juniper junkie on May 27, 2011, 11:54:43 am
here is a bow I made to donate to the oregon archery museum. the yew slats were cut by chet stevenson back in the 50's. they were cut out in a bow design of his so I tried to keep it as exact as possible. I planed down the laminates to about 1/4" and put them in my form with the bamboo. the riser is hawiian Koa. I had a kink develop just at the fades in one limb so had to even it out, not sure what caused it, maybe some wood cells crushing due to age? so the bow turned out lighter than I wanted. it is 67" 35#@28". I had to hurry to get this done before the weekend to go to western states rondy. I finished the bow with tung oil.
