Title: Reflex bamboo backed osage.
Post by: swamp yeti on May 25, 2011, 09:48:37 pm
Here is another one I finished up today, going on a bow building marathon. The bow is a bamboo backed osage, with reflex,it is 66 inches tip to tip,a inch and 5 eights at the widdest and fades down to a half inch at the tips. The bamboo was scorched with a benzine torch and steel wooled to give a old look. The bow is 60#@26 inches,it will sling a arrow.

Sweet!!!!

I have a very similar build lined up as soon as I clear a couple bows in process off my bench.  Any more close up pics of the scorched and steel wooled areas?

Also on my list of bows to make.  I have a few bamboo backings on the woodpile calling for me.  Nice bow!

Nice bow.  I think you lab likes it too!

I was just sitting outside looking over my two osage billets and some madaki bamboo that I am getting ready to glue up as I just got a new supply of smooth on and urac.  Trying to decide which one I'll use.  It will be my second time to make one of these.  The first one shot like a dream until it blew up at full draw on me (the bamboo gave way where it entered my take down sleeves).  I remade a limb and added horn overlays to prevent going through the power fibers on the boo and will do that on this project too.

I have a piece of both I've been considering do the same with but to tell ya the truth I feel a bit scared of the Boo compared to wood for some reason.  Beautiful work.
