Sterling, I'd think those shorter gar could still back a bow.  I've heard tin snips is the best way to cut gar skin.  Next time you go I'd be interested in the skins off one that size.  I have a friend over in Fort Worth who goes gator gar fishing all the time.   I keep trying to invite myself, but I don't think I'm that good a friend. :'(

Very cool pictures.  I'm hoping to try some bowfishing soon, here, Sterling.  Met a new friend that goes out on the inter-coastal waterway at night.
Good work!

Bow fishing is a riot.  I haven't been out in several years though.  It is some of the toughest shooting you'll ever do.  I bowfished in Green Lake Wisconsin decades ago.  Water so clear you could see bottom in 30' of water.  The carp looked like submarines but it was impossible to judge their depth and consequently nearly impossible to hit one.  I think I got one in 3 or 4 days of trying.  It was still great fun.  Someday I'll get out after the big gar down here.

Good luck you guys.
