Title: Yew Bow
Post by: Blacktail on May 15, 2011, 09:45:46 pm
This is a peice of Yew that is high elevation and the tree was actually scarred on one side. The bow is 59 in. and 54lbs at 25in. It has a 5 1/2 in. brace. The handle is Buffalo Hide and is backed with Rattle Snake. The ring count on this peice was over 60. I probably could have gotten more weight out of itbut I dont feel comfortable shooting really heavy bows. Its the darkest wood that I have seen in my life. THanks for looking, John.

John, that is a sweet bow, nice tiller, handle, shape(love the full draw shot).  Your starting to chase after the other Oregon bowyers. ;D just an incredibly well done bow.

That is a really fine looking bow John. I do believe you could have safely gotten a couple more inches of draw from that piece wood.

:o WOW that is stunning John great work! I like short draw bows too just finishing up a VM at 28" and it just doesnt feel right to me and its probably about the "right" draw length for me. I really preffer 26" Anyway great bow all around!  I really like the dark heart wood on that one, everything about it is great. Great work!

Very nice work John. After seeing the yew bow at the Classic that you gave Keenan I can appreciate the real beauty of this bow.   You have learned a lot is a relatively short period of time.  8)  Although having Keenan and Gordan as teachers puts the advantage in your court.  ;)

Having such a high ring count it must feel pretty cool working on a piece of wood that came into this world before you...love the bow and the skins, what Rattler has that cool contrasting white on the tail?

John...  stunningly beautiful bow!!  More than 60 rings in the bow alone?  Any idea what diameter the whole tree was?

That's a bloody gorgeous bow and I'm sure it'll put plenty of meat on your table!!

I know where my vote for May BOM is going ;)

horrible tiller, crummy stave, shoddy finnish, and your form stinks!!!!!!  Just thought i would balance the rest of the comments.  Looks great I hope you use it to staple down a big one.

You've made a really super bow. The tiller is spot-on, and the skins look terrific! Nice work! Did I miss it earlier, or how did you induce reflex in the tips?
