Title: West Texas Hog Hunting
Post by: criveraville on May 14, 2011, 12:19:57 am
So I'm hog hunting with George Stoneburge and when we drive up to the feeder I will be hunting over, there is a sounder of at least 30 roasting size pigs and a nice sow. George stopped, backed up and I loaded up... I was not loaded up  ???

I snuck up behind the cedars to within 20 yards and fired of a shot( sorry with a rifle)...

Well I missed!!!! :(

but it was Georges fault

Too bad :D If there is feeders, I usually pack my Super- Redhawk with the 8.5" barrel. Just set up on them tomorrow, when the feeder goes off again. They are stupid, if they don't have food they will be back, just a little more cautious. ;)

Try again.  And post some pictures when you get one ;D

Hey Mullet, I have a Taurus 44 mag. with the 8 3/8" barrel.  Those big handguns are fun aren't they?  It is the only gun I have carried for the last 3 deer seasons.

Yes sir! I love mine. It's the one I got the boar hog with that Chris Cade tells the story about. He was running full speed about 75 yds and I was running with flip-flops, talking on a cell phone, jeep roling away in neutral, got lucky and popped him behind the ear. ;D Oh yea, forgot about the shorts and flowery, Hawaiian shirt. ;)

I'm embarrassed to say I forgot to grab the pics off that trail cam.  It would have been funny to see the sounder and then C and I vainly looking for sign.  That sounder did come into another feeder this morning after I left it and moved to a different feeder. ???  Anyway, this is what he had to chose from:

Probably flock shot. ;D  I've done it.  ;)

Had a great time.  We need to do it again.

I've flung arra's into crowds like that to no avail. I reckon if i hit em with my SA12G1-14AR1030/OU51A2 they aughta die ;D. Haha, that's a joke guys of course. Don't have my weaponry nomenclature down. Nice flock of pigs there George!

Apparently we've got wild boar growing in number in Ireland now, due to either some escaping from farms, or (more probably) activists releasing them into the wild.

They originally died out here in about the 17th century.  As they've been "illegally reintroduced" back into Ireland's wildlife, they've been put on the invasive species list - which means all year hunting!!

Now all I gotta do is finish getting bowhunting legalised, then it's bacon, ham, pork and rashers all day, every day!!!

oooooh...  and don't forget the ribs!!! ;D

OK Mike, that'll give my replacement night vision scope time to get here too. >:D  I've always wanted to shoot one of the Saiga 12s. ;D

Paul, I've done it too, multiple times.  My worst hog shot ever was when I tried a shot down at about a 20lb shoat from a very tall archery stand.  I shot a little low and the arrow went in the split between his little hoof.  Must've hurt like the dickens as I've never heard a hog make the sounds this one made.  It kept spinning in circles so I could not get another arrow off at it.  Finally the arrow came out and the little thing ran off no worse for wear.  Those little, always moving, shoats are tough targets. :-[

My wife loves the ribs, can't come home without them. ;)

Here are some pics of Diego with a short bow made by Ken75.. He loves the bow and shots it well... W had a great time, but I did choke on the first evening and did not see them again... George, thats not the same sounder.. The one I shoot at was bigger about 30 animals and there were no black ones.. Only white and black spotted and a few brown ones..

You have more pigs than you thought, I think.. Great time.. Thank you for trying hard to put us over pigs.

Sadly, there aren't very many wild hogs with good enough belly for bacon.  I've killed 2 I think so far that were worthy of bacon, but I haven't mastered making bacon at all.  Both times I've tried I ended up with salt pork, and one of those wasn't very salty. :(

Cipriano, those pictures of Diego are great.  He sure does love that bow.  He was willing to shoot anything and I think tried just about everything we brought.  Had quite a few bows on the picnic table for awhile.  Great memories for sure.  Hmm, I hope you're right about having more than 1 sounder.  It's possible.  I wish I'd grabbed the gray stand trail cam pics before I left, we would have known for sure then.

We'll do it again.  Need a couple more folk so we have all the feeders covered.  Need to find the leak in the roof of my blind too. ???  My next time out there will likely be the weekend after Fathers Day.

Nope, I'm wrong about that.  My next trip looks like June 10-12, that's the date I was shooting to try and get some local bowyers/knappers there.

I don't know why Cipriano but that shirt your boy is wearing makes me think of Dr. Pepper for some odd reason ;D. Looks like he love his bow..

Well, actually. I was reffering to Dublin. From what I understand, that's where Dr.Pepper made it's debout and that place is still up and running - OLD ;D.
