Title: Cased set for a Mollegabet.
Post by: half eye on May 01, 2011, 11:13:47 pm
Fellas,
made up a cased set for the mollgabet thats about done....right now it's protecting a Ken 75 Holmgaard. This is my idea of a set for a long bow type Northern European bows.....it is not based on any artifacts or drawings.....just my ideas. It's got the bow case, quiver, and small bag.....made from ox hide. everything is attached to the other parts by straps so everything can be adjusted. There are also "extra" straps for securing the whole works to either wagon, ship, or horse. I also used a edge piece for a strap pad on the bandolier.
Like to know what ya think, hopefully a european bow wont look too out of place in it. The arrows for this set are black walnut with wild turkey secondary feathers.....there is a pic in the arrow section cause I put them in a "cat" quiver for the pics. I'll repost the one pic here....of the arrows

Looks like a sturdy (almost bulletproof) set of leatherwear.

Would love to see detailed pic's of the arrows.

If you use common sense, you should be able to come up with something very similar to what a primitive man would be carrying.  He needs his bow protected from the elements but able to be drawn quickly and silently, same for the arrows.  The small bag would carry an extra string, fire starting materials, maybe a blade for dressing the animals he kills.  It has to be light, otherwide it won't stay with him, it will be in the cabin or on the horse when he needs it.  I think you have done an excellant job of recreating something that was probably very common but has not survived the years.  Bill
