finished this one today , modified after limb split during steam bending . V spliced cherry limb tips overlayed with maple and black walnut tips.
1 3/4 wide at fades to 1/2 inch tip , 50 inches tip to tip 45lbs at 27 inches tilller was a booger on this one. copperhead skins and antler rest.
-
Those copperhead skins are striking! The only other snake I've seen more of around here than copperheads have been garter snakes. Neither of which I have seen large enough for backing bows.
-
Nice bow and good save with the cherry tips! Is it fast?
CP
-
thanks Matt , there are two skins on this 50 inch bow so sometimes you gotta use the little ones.
thanks Cacatch , its speed is impressive i dont own a chrono but compare it to others ive built
-
Another nice one Ken, the copperhead skins are purdy :)

Great bow Ken. You must be the busiest bowyer on this site. :-)

Hell and Damnation, looks like it would be about perfect for one of them Michigan midgets, eh? ::) Nice bow Ken.....
-
thanks Darcy
thanks tdog , i try to make the best of the four days off a month !
watch what you wish Rich it might end up at your doorstep.
-
Nice save ken for sure. I really like the braced profile.
-
thanks Nate i have one more to save but thats for another day
-
Ken75 nice bow I love to see your work. Is the humidity very bad in your part of Georgia? The reason I ask is because I have noticed you make a lot of bows from hickory and was curious how that affects them?
-
Dlh humidity is an issue here winter is not so bad but spring an summer iits usually maxed out. i get good performance from hickory i would like to think design plays a roll in that
-
Ken my skins keep getting mas bonitas y mas bonitas on your bows!!!!! Those are the prettiest skins in my opinion... Very vibrant earth tones.. Like it a lot.. ;D ;D ;D
Half eye dont get too excited up there in cold country... a big guy for his people down here Texas was would look good with one... O:) O:)
-
That is one awesome deadly looking bow
Nice work Ken
-
thanks again for the skins CP
thanks Bowjunkie glad u like it
-
awesome save Ken, the standard double your draw length plus 10% rule don't seem to bother you any :) The whole thing is really nice, skins, profile and especially the full draw.
-
thanks Scott first time with the copperheads
thanks Eric ...no not really
-
MY FAVORITE COMO
-
I love the way those copperhead skins jump. Great looking bow once again, Ken.
-
thanks gentlemen !
-
Another sweet bow, I really like the profile on your bows.
-
luv those skins i have 2 over 30" long but they do not match when it comes to color schemes or is darker and the other is just like the light colored oak leaves on the grond but both are beautiful
-
thanks Scott
thanks doc
-
Great looking bow. Question on the v splice. Is that all that is holding it or is there an overlap somehow under the skin? I would have thought you would have needed some sinew there. Thanks.
Randy
-
Randy the v splice is overlayed with an 1/8th thickness of maple but not for the integrity of the splice . the tips are cherry which i know doesnt like tension and with this short design i knew there would be high stress on the recurved section of the tips. i didnt trust the cherry grain to hold up so the maple was to help it . in an unbending section of the bow especially the limb tips a v splice is extremely strong and i wouldnt hesitate to use it unbacked
-
thanks for the reply. I have heard it said that a v splice is as strong as solid wood if done right.
-
The color pattern on our Texas copperheads seem to match. That last one I got was 30 inches long... Long for a Texas copperhead. That one I hunted on the back roads. At about 2:30 AM I cam across it..
Ohhhh. It was hard to let go of it, but I'm glad I did 8)
-
thanks CP these were my first copperheads , glad you let me use them. they might just come back home to texas
-
As others have said...Nice save man. No offense but I'm glad it split. Just so I could see how you handled it. Very impressed. Good job. Nice bow!
