Here are some pics of my first ever bow from a board of Red Oak. I tried to copy a Cherokee style. Let me know what you think and constructive criticism done properly is always appreciated. I may paint it a little more. DISCLAMER The camera person was in no danger with the front shots arrow was not nocked. :)

Looks nice gj ;)

I think thats a damn nice bow.
-
good job. tiller looks fine to me. what weight ,length etc. gotta love the d-tillered bows.
-
Looks really good to me. Only thing I would consider changed would be to make the tapers a little more aggressive from about mid limb to the tips. Those tips look a bit wide.
Nice bow!

Great first bow!
-
Cool first bow! Got any specs?
-
hows the handshock on that thing? I'm working on a 72" pine bow much like yours...so far working on narrowing the tips down from 1". Handshock is pretty jarring so far.
-
Wow guys thanks a bunch! ;D For those that asked it's about 68" ntn and 43lbs at 27 inch about 47-48 at 28 inch.
Matt, yeah I know what you mean your way would be more efficient but I was following a particular style and apparently they didn't know that either. :)
Anz, Can't lie there is a fair amount of hand shock but I was expecting that with this design. I'm hoping my next will be more Wampanoag style and that the hand shock thing won't be an issue. I say "fair" amount but I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable.

In that case, I don't see anything wrong with that bow :)
Didn't realize that style had wide tips like the Meare Heeth. They must have been launching some heavy arrows!

wow what a great first bow

I know how jazzed I was when I actually decided to make a piece of wood wear a string and have an arrow fly into a target !!!
You reached into a place that not a lot of people go or have been. AND....you did it really well !!! Tell me that you couldn't wipe the smile from your face when you nocked that first one and let it fly??? Great job, and best of luck on future wood bending - it just sort of grabs you and you start looking at trees ( and boards) differently!!!
-
Congratulations on your first bow. I like it. jawge
-
Hey!!!
No fair, disguisein those red lines as decoration. We know theyr really sight pins.LOL

Thank you! ;D I do want to make one from a stave as well maybe after the one I'm going to build this week. ;)
Lane, No I did not make the arrow. My friend makes them. He is also the one that advised me on the building of my bow. I'm hoping he'll join the forum very soon. I think you all will like some of his stuff. I'll post pics of another arrow he made me with a stone point (actually from Legionaire I beleive) and Phragmities with an oak footer.

Of all bow woods, I like red oak the best. Well done!
-
Looks a heck of a lot better than my first, second, or even third bow. Nice job. Red Oak ain't just for beginners though, I'd discovered I like the wood better than several of the other major bow woods. To Each His Own.
-
Well Red oak is the only boards I could find so I really had no choice. I keep thinking I got lucky with this one but we'll find out as I've started my second. :)
-
I love the tiller on those D-bows. You did fine work there.
-
Love that bow. I agree with prosaffel. Red oak is not merely a "beginners wood." It makes a first class, durable bow. Everytime I find a red oak board with good grain I can't resist buying it.
