I have been trying to figure out how to consistently thin my stone without steps hinges and what I call the dips. The dips are digging as a result of pushing to hard outward I think or maybe taking to big of a bite. I figured out to drive off the small ridges before I thicken up the platform. This process cleans up the stone for the next past and start the process of reversing the platform. I Finally got a process that will allow me to thin. I included the push at 30 degrees. It sure take a lot of work to figure this out. Tower thanks for taking the time to answer my question it really helped me finally put it all together. This stone was at least 4 times the thickness.

Very well done!

Excellent point. Colorful material. I would hunt with that any day of the week. I hope my perspective has helped you. Maybe you can modify it to fit your knapping style. We all love knapping & were all willing to help a brother out.

I have hope, still trying to wrap my head around the thinning part. Most of mine seems to be luck rather than calculated assault on rock....fun learning just the same.

ENclonghunter I can really identify with you on the assult thing. When you know that about your points that is when things start to change. My next goal is to calm down the stone earlier so that I can establish a better flake pattern. I used pencil lines running the Length of the point to see if a flake was reacting correctly based on a particular technique. I actually was amazed by how things work out when I follow a set of rules so to speak. Hey leapingbear I wanted to tell you that I read a post where you punched out stalled notches and it worked almost too good. I removed a huge flake form the back side with a punch, have to take small bites with that technique. I will have to post a picture of that one next.
