Last week the postman left a large, long box on my front porch. Inside was a piece of wood carved into an odd, but attractive shape. With the piece of wood was a string which spanned one end of the object to the other in a manner that when the wood object was bent, the string would rest in grooves on either end. A story came with the object as well.
This beautiful wooden object came in a bag of animal hide.
I'm still working on getting some photos taken of it and will update this post when said photos are available.
What is this thing?
Who sent it to me?
Any guesses?
;D ;D ;D ;)
**Update**
You guys knew right away! I guess my clues were too obvious :D
Anyway, here's the story. Halfeye calls me early last week and we have a nice conversation. He lets me know that the bow would be here by Thursday or Friday. Thursday rolls around (not quickly enough) and I take a break from work to run home to see if the mail had come. Waiting for me was a large box! ;D
And I know you are all waiting for picts, so here they are:
Bow strung:

The decorations on the back of the bow. Can anyone decipher them? Hint: it's a story and it isn't in English:

That's a great looking bow! But then all of Rich's bows are. I'm with you Cameroo, time to get workin...I haven't started yet either, but I do have a plan. Have fun with that bow Matt, looks like it fits you perfectly. Here's an idea, this fall let's start a thread that keeps track of the animals these trades bow harvest. Just a thought. :)

Im thinking that from what you first said that the whole thing seems a little creepy. And the markings on that thing surely appear to be black magic. The best course of action would be to bury it in a vast expanse of salt. I happen to live near the Bonneville salt flats so if you mail it to me I will take up this just cause for you... But seriously that is really cool looking and I would really like to know what the runes say , ifits not to personal.

Beautiful bow. I love the Runes.

Ok, so here are the runes in our alphabet:
"Matt Kaempede skraelings med buk og okse i vinland med to dode"
And your second hint: that's Danish.
Thankfully rich gave me the english translation otherwise I'd still be trying to figure it out! :D

Awesome bow. I just don't know how halfeye does it. It just amazes me. I pray when I get his age, I will have the energy just to make one bow a month.
