It is legal to hunt in Iowa with flint arrowheads. I called the game warden and ask specifically. I have about 15 shafts to put points on so I still have a lot more to make. Now that I understand how to make a points I am going through a lot less material than I did in the past. Thank you for the nice comments!  Sailor did you you get my PM yesterday?

iowabow, what are the legal size demensions on stone points in your state?
just curious,as i am giong to start and gather this data and present it to our DNR here in mn.
right now our law states "all broadheads MUST contain aslest 2 METAL cutting edges"
i know that the local head of the district for the DNR is interested in selfbows.i figure if i can gather enough data from surrounding states
and present it to him, maybe he can help me get the law changed to allow stone points aslo.
here in minnesota they just changed the law a year or two back on gun calibers to match all the surronding states.
we were the only one in the five state area to not allow smaller calibers for rifle hunting, now we can use .223
yes i did get your p.m. yesterday, i am pondering on it  ;)

Thank you leaping bear.  And the only regulation is that it be a broadhead period.  There are no other comments on this subject according to the warden.  I was surprised by this rule and very happy.

Hey I think I figured out something.  I have seen on multiple video to use smaller and smaller copper pressure flaker but I have never heard why. Today I was working a point noticed two things my deer antler will undercut real nice with out digging deep. Second the smaller pressure flaker's shoot long flat flakes without digging out and removing material from the edge.  I think this is important.

i have a multitude of antlers i use. my roughing antler is a long piece of elk i use for an ishi stick. i use it for thinning. then i have a piece of bone that takes different small tines in it for shaping the point. finally i finish the edge with a deers ulna bone and do the notches with the ulna too. if i dont have ulnas i just use a piece of leg bone to finish the edge
