Title: Stone I.D.
Post by: DLH on February 23, 2011, 03:48:52 am
Sorry this will be hard but I figured it can't hurt to ask. I know someone that has found rocks that come in balls but they are green on the inside the also break fairly easy as well and leave a sharp edge. They would find these in the sides of banks in north east Ky east of Richmond I just wanted to know what this was it sounds like it would be good for knapping anyways. Any ideas sorry I don't have any pics or name but I thought y'all would be the ones to ask.

Never heard of green rock from KY. Also never heard of people finding it that far east. But i would not be surprised.
You can find balls of flint in Bowling Green, they will have a light colored chalky crust and will be blue, gray in side.
Your best bet is to drive the roads between Bowling Green and FT Knox and look in creeks and any were you see fresh earth from construction is worth a look.
I'm sure your find good flint, you just have to put the time in.
