I was looking threw my local paper the other day and seen where a fellow had fresh cut hedge posts for sale for fencing. I called him and he said he had a 150 posts for sale. I was the first one there and I bought 26 logs that are 9 foot long and run about 8" across. The straightest Osage in a bunch that I have ever seen. Some have some side brances but all in all very clean. I will split them into and spray them and put them in my barn for a few months and split them out. Going to have a buch of billets since they are 9 foot long. Nice to hit it a lick once in a while. Dean

Lucky you! How much did you give per 9' post? Just curious what the going rate is.

CaCatch I gave 18.00 dollars a piece for these. The big corner posts they get 25 to 30.00 dollars. You guys in Osage country watch your local papers. Farmers are cutting now and will advertise them for sale for fencing.

That is a pile of bodark! Very nice haul ya got there - would be a lifetime supply for me for sure...

Not a bad price at all, especially for a bowyer, who, like Cowboy said could buy 10-20 and be set for life possibly. Good for you!

Am I jellyous? Of course I am, I'd offer swap you for some Yew if we weren't half a world away!
I wonder if those guys on Star Trek sneak into the transporter room to beam staves to their buddies?
Nice haul, fortune favours the lucky ;)

Nice find Dean. Thats where I hahve been getting all my osage for the past three years! I pay 30 for the best pieces. Most are over 9 foot like you said. He calls me now when ever he cuts some and I go pick out the ones I want for bows. Then I just pick em up on an as needed basis.

Drooooooolllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see a lot of seasoned staves offered up for trade towards the end of the year! :D

Now the hard part is coming. Getting them debarked and sealed good enough so they don't crack. They are nice that they are 9 foot long so I can lose some on the ends and still get a long enough piece. I will get the rest of the logs in a couple of days and I will take some more pics and show the rest of them. Del if you can work with billets I believe we can ship them there threw the postal service. Dean
