Post by: clintw864 on May 21, 2007, 04:49:33 pm
I'm new at this. I have made two or three out of hickory. Turned out well. Am going to try red elm.  Sapwood on or off? Thanks.  Clint

Peel the bark and that's your back. Just like hickory.   Pat

Unless you really ,really want to chase a few rings. You could chase a few rings down ,so that the limbs have heart wood on the belly the whole way. It's purty but a lot of work.
