I have a heavy heart tonight. RIP Sam, Jack Russell Terrorist extraordinaire, tree-er of possums and coons, defender of the garden from groundhogs, best friend, companion, and hiking buddy for the last thirteen years. It's a durn shame that dogs don't live as long as we do.
-
I Sorry you lost your buddy Hillbilly. Sounds like you have a ton of great memories, though. I never owned a JR but I helped dig one out of a groundhog hole once. He wasn't coming out without that hog!
-
Hillbilly,
I'm with you. Remember that the loss isn't in them, it's in us.
It will be ok. I hope my dog and your dog are at my father's house eating a porterhouse steak for two and lapping up spilt brew.

I am so sorry to hear this. It is never easy losing your best friend.
Once in a while, I get up to the Dog Chapel, in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Amazing place. It was build by an artist named Stephen Huneck as a place to go and remember your pets, post photos in the chapel, and remember how lucky we are to have dogs (and cats and other friends) in our lives. The place is called Dog Mountain, and is absolutely peaceful and beautiful.
Next time I go, if you want, I can print out this photo of Sam and give him a place of memory in the chapel. Just about all the walls are covered with photos and rememberences of lost pets, thousands of them now. Kara's photo is there (and we scattered some of her ashes there), as is Charlie, my parent's terrier, and my wife's dog Freeway, who I never met but heard was totally evil :) I expect to go this summer. Just let me know.
Same goes for Scooter, Stephen. Google the place up, guys, so you can see it.

Very sorry for your loss. It's a shame they're so darn irreplaceable. I'm already worried about how the loss of mine is going to affect me, and she's only 3.

so sorry to hear.that sucks buddy. i remember staying up with my dog stump all night till she passed. that morning i carried her to the top of bear mountain and layed her down. we camped there on new years eve in -10 weather and it was my biggest memory of her. she kept me alive that night with her fur. after her i got another and could never connect with him the way i did with my huskie. by the way we called her stump cause she was "dumb as a stump".
-
Sorry to hear that Steve it's hard to loose a member of the family especially one that's been around that long.Ronnie

I can feel, how your emotions are at the moment. I have 2 of these nice, little fighters. I won`t think of this final, although the days come nearer. They are15 and 11 now...
Sorry to hear this,

I'm sorry Hillbilly. I have a Jack Russell Terrorist myself. She's into her fifteenth year now. I had to put down 'ol Wilbur my Beagle Hound about three years ago! Anyway, they're at the Rainbow Bridge waitin' for us! Again, I'm sorry.

Not good news Steve - sorry to hear that! It would seem that we've all had to put a good friend in the ground at some point.
-
Sorry for your loss Bro

Thanks guys. You sure can get attached to some of them.
-
So sorry to hear another one gone :(
R.I.P little fella
-
Man sorry to hear that Steve. We lost our dog 3 years ago and the wife still cant handle the idea of getting a new one.
-
Winter sure is tough on all critters, humans and four leggeds. We are down to one dog now and she is old and frail. Dogs sure give more than they get. Sorry about your loss Hillbilly. Put some tobacco on the earth and give thanks for all those years you had together.
-
Sorry to hear that man. I feel for ya.
-
Soory to hear about Sam, A good Jack Russel is hard to beat. My sister has one she calls the dog from hell, every time I come over he thinks we are going hiking. They can sure entertain us, R.I.P Sam. Steve

I picked up a Jack Russell terrorist on a three day 4th of July weekend once. He was running down the street scared of the fireworks all around him. I got him calmed down and in the truck and took him home. He rewarded me by destroying two pheasant mounts, a brand new Redwing work boot, and two throw rugs within the first half hour. Having him around was like popping popcorn with the lid off the pan.
I kept him until the following Tuesday morning when the message I left at the local Humane Society got to his owner. I was utterly relieved when the owner picked him up and the house was peaceful again. It was a week later that I went to the Humane Society to fill that huge hole that he left behind. How did a dog that small dig, chew, and rip that big of a hole in my life so bloody fast?
R.I.P. you little bugger. If there's no dogs allowed in heaven I wanna go where the dogs are.
-
Sorry to hear that, Steve. I was a blubbering idiot when I had to bury my beagle early last year, and we had only had her about 7 months. They become part of the family real quick.
-
They really do become a part of your life, that's why we feel such loss in their absence. Sorry you lost your buddy, terriers are a house full of dogs condensed into one small package. Makes the loss even harder.

I'm sorry to hear this, Steve, he was a cool little Booger.
-
sorry to hear that bro! sounds like you need a vacation.
-
Sorry for your loss...we have had our first Jack Russell for abot 2 1/2 years now and I am more attached to him than any dog we have ever had. :(
-
sorry to hear about your buddy Steve. I know how it is.
-
sry to hear of your loss.
it's sad dogs dont live longer but on the other hand if he out lived you he would have to find someone who loved and cared for him as much as you did.
i was real sick once and worried my head off about what would become of my dog if i wasnt there for him.
-
Now its reality! Yesterday we had to go to Paulas doc. Shes now in dogs heaven, may be she meets your Jackie there.
She had water in her lung, which didn? t go, although she got some medicaments.
Last Tuesday on the morning walk with the dogs my wife came back and told me the dog laid down in the grassin.
She had to carry her back home, because didn`t want to walk no more. Paula was breathing very much and the doc made a radiograph on which he saw only a little bigger heart as normal, which would be okay for a dog of 11 years. Hearts grow, when they get older.
Now, yesterday we had lay her down in the cold and wet earth... We are dumpish!
After we looked some pics of our little dogs today, we discovered that the blanket she was lying as a baby, is now her shroud...
-
She was beautiful UWE.
-
Chin up Hillbilly We'll be seeing them rascals on the other side. I have out lived four fine dogs and feel sure that I will have them all under foot again.(God willing)

Uwe, I love that photo of your dog. The bright, alert look on her face is wonderful. I bet you have a thousand stories of good times shared with her.
-
That's alwys a sad day Hill Billy. I'm sorry for your loss!!
-
Thanks for the nice words. Now, 2 weeks later we got a "NEW BABY".
Look:
-
Oh, Uwe! I can see that dog is a smart little thing, she's gonna cause you untold amounts of grief in the years to come. Congratulations!
-
Yes, she seems to be a very intelligent one. Nearly 10 weeks old she is already apporting things and is a little fighter. Think muskrats and stuff like this will have a hard life in the future.
This little Jack Russell baby was the smallest among her brothers. Her parents as well as her grandmother were to be seen- all in good condition. So we think, we have made it correct.
