I've been thinking of building a hickory backed red oak? I've been thinking 68 inches overall. 1.75 wide fading to .5 - 3/8 tips? 50-55 @ 27? Any thoughts considerations?

You could trap the hickory. Otherwise it sounds like a perfectly fine combo.

Bill, that sounds like a good design. You could also go out from the fades 6" to 8" before tapering to the tips. I have made a few very nice hickory backed red oak boards. It is a pretty good combo. When you glue it up add about 3" of Perry Reflex. That should give you a flat profile after the bow is shot in.

Thanks guys!!! As soon as I can get to a home depot I'll get a nice red oak board and get a hickory backing strip on the way!
