Title: Copperhead ELB
Post by: Almostpighunter on December 31, 2010, 01:11:12 am
Okay, so I know I'm clashing geographies here by using North American Copperhead skins on a English Longbow, but I thought it'd be cool looking and I think it turned out pretty darned okie dokie.

73" (71"NTN) ELB Hickory Self Bow

48# @ 28"

Golf Tee Arrow rest

Latigo leather and thatch riser wrap

Stain design and serving string transition based on Gordon's "Hazelnut Build-a-long." Thanks Gordon!

More pics to come.

Yeah, you are also clashing by putting an arrow rest on it >:(... but it is a very nice bow so I'll let you off this once ;).
Didn't one of the East Coast tribes have bows like that? Cherokee maybe? I can't be bothered to look it up at the moment. But if you called it a Cherokee bow it would stop hundreds of medieval English Archers spinning in their graves...
Just kidding of course, that's really pretty and a great tiller.
I'm just jealous 'cos we don't have many snakes in the UK :'( (only the Adder and the Grass snake and they aren't very colourful, they are protected too as they are fairly rare)

Very nice!  A bow is a bow.  You dont have to stick to set rules....make what you like.  Good going.

Great looking bow, love the skins,I was wondering where you found a copperhead long enought for an ELB , :)Then I seen you only covered about 1/2 the limbs.Looks great.Nice job. :) I think copper heads look good on most anything, wished I could find more of them. :)

Thanks for the nice words all. I brought that bow down to San Diego along with the "Salvaged BBH + Bocote" bow for my father and I to shoot over the holidays; however, somehow I was talked into only leaving with the BBH... :o Actually, the bow worked out better for my dad as the purpleheart one I made for him was just a wee bit heavy. Problem is my father and the bow are in San Diego and I'm back home in Vegas, but I'll ask him to take some more detailed pics of the riser, etc.. and I'll post em as soon as I get them.

Oh...and @ Del the Cat: Yeah you're right, the Golf tee arrow rest is a clash too, but it was a last minute add on for my dad who prefers to shoot off a rest as opposed to his hand. Kinda poetic for him as he is an avid golfer who's golf motto is as follows:

"I play golf seven days a week and my goal is to try to figure out how to make it eight."

He got a huge kick out of the fact that the rest was made from a golf tee and took the bow to the course to show his buddies.
