See how this works never posted pick before but here is my Dogwood Selfbow I just finished it 64in nock to noch and 58# at 28in. It shoots hard with no hand shock. Made it for deer and hog hunting and stomp shooting.

How difficult is it to harvest a dogwood stave? Splittable?

Dogwood huh? Cool, where you from? Glad you posted it, I'm not sure I have seen a dogwood posted before. I would like to see it up close if you can get a good pick of the back or belly if possible. Danny

dogwood makes a fine bow. i would put it with elm and almost hickory. its very strong and has great cast. it likes to twist bad when green so strap it down while drying.its common wood in MO. and makes a nice yard tree.

Im in Alabama I go along old logging roads and find dogwoods that have been pushed over but still growing. It splits easy but its bad about running one side so a log you think you might get 3 staves out of you end up with 1 or 2. As soon as i get back to my daughters and she can take some more pics i will do some close up of the bow. And yes twist is a issue with dogwood. Made a couple dozen river cane arrows with it and i love the way it shoots them.

Yea was about 5 in across tree got 2 staves out of it . And about to start on second stave.

that should be a strong bow
i dont know alot about dogwood except that it is the best wood to make flintknappin billets out of. that and persimon are the best as far as the grain not seperating from beating on rocks.
that would leave me to believe that it would be a solid bow and last a long time
