Title: Arrow shelf?
Post by: snag on December 22, 2010, 11:13:26 am
I have started to layout a 66" osage stave for a bow. I was thinking of making an arrow shelf.
Do you make the handle 1.5" wide instead of 1" so there is enough wood to slightly cut into
for a shelf? Do you put it just under the fadeouts? Thanks, David

I usually don't make them any wider, just a little deeper,I don't cut much anyway,I will cut in a little and then glue on a piece of leather to build it up if I plan on hunting with it,I like to hang my bow while hunting and I want the arrow to stay on,That is the only reason for me to have a
shelf. :)

I cut shelfs into all of my bows. After I ruff out my bow before starting my handle I cut the shelf in. Afer I cut out the handle and limbs how wide I want them .i'll go back and cut my self as close to center as the bow will allow me to. After the closer I get to finishing the closer I'll take it toward cente shot.

I build up a shelf out of cork.  It looks like this:

Cork! Good idea. I am making the handle width on this bow about 1.25". Just didn't want to cut into it too much! Maybe I'll try
.25" and then use the cork idea.
