Title: Red neck shaving horse and snakey stave
Post by: Little John on December 06, 2010, 08:42:29 pm
i have been trying to work this snakey guava stave from  Manny (North Shore Longbow) and having a hard time holding it so got an idea to use some tools off my work truck. Heated and got the string to track center of handle and removed some deflex from one outer mid limb. Am planning to get something holmieish with narrow non bending outer limbs and tips. Just now beginning to bend.      Kenneth

Thanks Pat, I hope to get her to bending more and begin tillering soon. Might do a bit more libb tweaking, it has a dip simular to your Christmas stave that I fear won't really hold what ever heat straightening I might do. Did most of the straightening just past the dip in the thicker barely bending outer limbs. Has a little reflex now, might try for a little more.     Kenneth

Hey Little John
Good Lord man, snaky is an understatement! Skin back that stave, put it on someones porch and it just might get shot or at least a hunting knife stuck in it ;D >:D ;D.
Being from Oklahoma I am a huge fan of Red Neck Ingenuity! You got it nailed...Can't Wait to see some finish pics. That is some kinda sweeeeet character...

God bless Ya
Ron

Got her floor tiller bending pretty good today, maybe can get a string on ber in the next session or two. Still have an issue or two that the jury is still out on so don't know if it will ever be nice enough to be in the same imediate family with Elkie. Maybe a distant cousin. We will see if and when she makes a bow and after the snake skins are on. She is beginning to resembla a hoola dancer tho. Pat did you ever work one of Manny's staves?

I completed one straight guava stave and gave that bow to Steve Parker(Hillbilly). I also have a stave similar to that one but it has small worm holes in it and I set it aside. Manny said they shouldn't hurt it but I don't know. I will probably try again when I have more time.
