Well, here we go...about 2 years ago Bobby Keller(boo)asked me to build a bow for him and gave me the stave to build it...two years later I finally got to it! ;D I had to do quite a bit of straightening on Bobby's stave and by the time I had it almost fully tillered out I noticed some checks and stress cracks due to the amount of heating and straightening sessions. I didn't feel comfortable making the bow Bobby wanted(55#-60#@29") because of these issues. I told Bobby I would make him another bow using the wood that Patrick (Lil Pat) had given me from his Dad's bow wood stash after Tom B passed away last year. Bobby knew Tom but not well but I figured Tom would approve! 8)
The bow is 66"t/t(64"n/n) and pulls 65#@30"(I'm only pulling it 26" in the pic). The snake skin backing is from a large Oklahoma timber rattler skin that Tim Lathum gave me earlier. I cut it in half, lengthwise, and used half on each limb. The tip overlays are some unknown wood and Am. bison horn, the handle wrap is hemp cord set in epoxy with a floppy rest. This bow shoots my 600+gr hill cane arrows very well. It is finished with 6 coats of Tru-Oil.
Here are the braced and full draw pics...

Looks like a fast tiller. Nice Bow Pat!

And I was wondering how you tillered that "step" away after the fades :D

Beautiful bows. I never get tired of seeing bending osage. That full draw is wonderful.

Once again Pat you make em look great.

I just go with the flow, TJ and let the wood tell me what it wants to be! ;)

Great work again. I love the snake skin.

Pat,
Me so jealous of B. Keller! You sure make nice bows and the tillering...jeelaw...and the art work...jeelaw! (BTW just a couple of weeks ago was reading a PA and saw a picture of you up on a big ol' horse chasing elk with a bow called Elkie)(you might remember I told you an Steve I was buying all the old PA's slowly and surely working through them to try to get a clue (still ain't got a clue! but having a good time).
You sure do awesome work,

Nice work, you are revealing your craftsmanship.

Rand, that was my Colorado elk hunt trip in '06 with Kenneth(Little John). I have Elkie back now for a total makeover. Have strippd her of sinew and snake skin, cleaned up the old glue and induced some reflex and did a bit of tip adjustment. Will start re-sinewing her again so she will be ready to hunt elk again next Sept. ;) There is a wealth of info in the past issues of PA. I have a copy of every issue right next to my chair at home.
Thanks everyone.

Very sweet bow Pat. I liked this statement that you made. Often I see bowyers decide they want a certain style of bow and it is not suited for that type of wood or particular piece of wood. the skins look great and love the exposed tips.
