Nice bow, looks like you got the levers doing their job with out the excessive mass I see on most holmies. How about more dimentions like limb width and lever and tip width. Thanks for sharing. Kenneth
-
Thanks guys ! Kenneth don't remember all the measurements, i don't do much measuring i just start caerving and see what happens :D
The working limbs are around 2" wide the levers are about 1/2' wide same thickness.
Thanks :)

Very Cool! I'm really starting to warm up to those Molles, Nice bow all around!
-
Thanks Nathen, try it you'll like it :D

This is a really nice, primitive looking bow. It looks like you have some bend in the levers - did you intend for that? I've always heard the levers weren't supposed to bend. Not saying they shouldn't bend, it's just the norm typically that they don't. Either way I really like this bow and would love to make one like it.

Might be a little bend in them :)
Thanks !

I'll tell ya what though John, I like it better this way than if they didn't bend. This is really a nice looking bow and I bet it's a sweet shooter. Makes me want to try a black walnut but I don't think I'd ever convince anybody to let me cut one. Did you chase a ring on this? It looks like it's all heartwood, is that right?

CP, It's a sweet shooter very light in the hand for the amount of wood there is in this bow.
I was lucky to get the butt end log off a tree my brothers neighbor cut down in the city of Milwaukee, there was a thread about the tree a year and a half ago, i'll see if i can find it. any ways this bow is mostly sap wood i have some nice heart wood staves i need to get after soon. I'll try and get some pics of the handle up to show you the contrast :)

Lets see if this works i see photobucket changed some stuff on there site.(http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll62/johnkeehn/DSCF2023.jpg)

Cool :)

Oh yeah, I guess it does look like white sapwood - except the back of it looks pretty dark. Did you stain it or is that a natural color? I also wonder if BW gets darker with age, since its nuts are good for dark stain.

Right on! Thanks John. Man that looks like sweet wood to work with, was it? How was it to split?
-
Here's a few more of the finished handle, to pretty to cover up with anything :D

It was a bugger to get started being so big but once we got it in half it split nice :)
The color on the back is all natural i think it has that "antique" look to it.
-
Well done! Looks like you could go for low orbit from that deck ;D. If I might ask, what did you finish it with?
Frode
-
Hi Frode, the bow is finished with Tru-oil 6 light coats, it's all i use on my bows :)
-
Beautiful bow.Great job. God Bless
-
looks great John. I really like that one.
-
Nice Job on this Stave John....was wondering what had become of all that Walnut....
-
Thanks Pete, Jesse and Mike :)
-
Nice bow. That black walnut split beautifully for you. I wasn't so lucky when I split about 4 logs a few weeks ago. I had kept getting runoffs mid-log ???
-
Thanks Jeff, this log split real nice :)
-
Fine bow, that the recipient should be quite happy with.
-
Awesome bow, a pleasure to set eyes on ;D
-
Sweet profile on the bow, love that color in the handle. I like those shorter stiff levers too, there is a guy at our cornstalk shoots that has one similar to that made of hickory it's levers are a bit shorter and it shoots wicked. Good job.
-
Thanks Matt and Michael, he liked it ;D
I have a couple more in the works, but these are going to be all heartwood backed with rawhide :)
