Title: D.R. Osage
Post by: PeteC on November 30, 2010, 02:30:40 pm
I just finished this little bow. It's just a simple osage bow,but has a story I thought I'd share. It was originally built  for a feller in North Carolina, but, after sending pictures of the tillered stave,he did'nt want it because he said it was'nt wide enough, and he did'nt like the little whoop-dee-doo on the top limb.He said he had a thing about symetry, and it just would'nt work for him. There was no problem as I had'nt lettered it yet,so I went ahead and finished it.It's a very sweet shooter, and I thought I'd take it out to the woods, since the tru-oil was cured. This weekend we had some doe days,(for thanksgiving, and the weekend)and I took a doe with it and broke it in right. It's 66" tip to tip,64 3/4" nock to nock.It had a slight natural deflex,so I just flipped the tips and called it good.1 1/2" wide at fades ,then an even taper to 3/8" tips.52#@ 28". God Bless

Way to go Pete, on both accounts, the bow and the deer. That fella in NC lost out from what I can tell.

Nice bow, Pete and obviously a good hunting bow!  8)   If that guy has a thing for symetry he needs to look at other than a wood bow! He sure lost out of this deal!!!

Pete its a beutiful bow. I don't know what he's looking for but if that wasn't it he's probably never going to find it in a self bow. But sounds like you put it to great use and a lovely end to the first outing.

That's about as clean and straight as Osage comes..... In the bowyers bible they call that "fiberglass mentality" people who know about wooden bows see the perfection the bowyer is able to create with the imperfections in the wood.  ;D Nice bow as always Pete.

Thanks a lot fella's for the nice replies.I appreciate it.I agree with y'all,I think what he want's is a production bow,he just likes the idea of a self-bow.This bow came from the second straightest stave of osage,(of this lenght), I've had in more than 12 years of bow building. Thanks for lookin' ,and God Bless

Hi Pete,

Very nice bow.  It always amazes me to hear about peoples way of thinking about things sometimes.  Sure hope I make one anywhere as nice someday!

As has already been said by many many good people here - ain't nuthin' wrong with that bow!!  Far from it, in fact!!

The former patron wanted "symmetry" and looked for a selfbow of osage??

Beautiful bow you have there Pete.  Well done on Christening it too!!  :)

Great looking bow, way to break 'er in!  I remember the guy that taught me had some crazy character bows and I was a bit skeptical - never had seen a selfbow let alone a snakey one.  now I love 'em

Sweet simplicity if that won't please him don't send one you'll end up regretting it.  It will be nonstop hassles.
