i have a Chiron Volcano recurve it appears the lower limb is twisted out, any way to get it out??
-
is it a glass gacked bow or self?
-
If it's glassed, I would fix the problem by building a self bow ;)
-
is the twist when unbraced, braced or at full draw?
pics would be nice also
and yes it a F/G bow?
-
it appears to be wood core with glass back and it is twisted braced / unbraced / and drawn...just enough for the lower limb to be off centerline...had it awhile and hate to chunk it, it is a very fast bow or was and i have made several bow's from hickory and osage but would still like to fix the problem if possible
-
Wrong forum for a FG recurve. ;)
-

I have watched Allen Corn straighten the limb on a glass re curve bu running hot water over the limb in the area he wanted to bend and flex it gently in that direction and hold till it cooled, not boiling just hot water out of the sink.It worked like a champ. :) By the way bubba where are you from,I use to know a guy years ago from around the Nashville,TN. [east of Nashville] by that name. :)

Bubba, It's pretty easy to straighten one. Just twist the limb in the opposite direction and string it backwards for a few days. If it is still crooked, do it again.

Thank's for the help gentelmen , Pappy i am from North East Alabama.....ps....i understand this may not have been the proper place to ask questions about a wood and glass bow but as alway's i received very useful help
-
ya, i dont think MOST on here mind a q or 2 on glass bows
im sure most of us own atleast one bow that wouldnt qualify for this forum
i'll admit i own a wheelie and a F/G bear recurve
would i be afraid to ask a question here on my f/g bow, heck no
these guys(for the most part)are willing to help out
now lets see a before and after pic of that limb please :)

I don't mind at all, I have over 30. If you can help it, don't use heat of any kind. Most of the time you can get a friend to grab one end and you the other and twist in opposite directions and hold for just a minute or so. Thei string it backwards for a few days.

Thanks, Tim. Bubba, I get a lot of bows at yard sales that are twisted. When I show the people selling them they are twisted and only good for Wall Hangers, I get them for a lot less. ;D
-
thank's again guy's i have tryied to post pics on here several times and for some reason they won't post , i have a facebook page with some of my bow's both good and bad it's under bubba pharris if anyone is intersted
-
Oh, yea, use a recurve stringer. Stepping through and behind the leg has twisted a lot of bows over the years.
-
your photo may be too big-there's a 200kb/640x480 size limit on pics here. And hey, I own a glass bow, too. And if I ever get a few bucks ahead to get one of James's Vagabond bows, I'll own two. :)
-
No problem with glass bow questions here ,they just need to be in the Camp fire section, not in the bow section, I own several myself,I have a couple of them set up to hunt with every year, just never do. :) The only thing I have to say about twisting the limbs side way is go gentle, they can delamanate. They will take a lot bending straight but not so much twisting them.
I have seen several good bows come apart when stringing them and the guy twist the limb. :)
