Here is a BBI I finished up for Frank's 63rd Birthday. It is 64 inch tip to tip. 1 1/8" wide until about midlimb, tapers to 7/16" nocks. It draws about 60lbs at 28". Coyote Powerlam. Coyote, Osage, and HHB riser. Osage and Walnut overlays. Finished with 6 coats of tung oil. Beaver fur silencers. Hope you all like it.

:o :o Wow that is sweet. You are really getting those R/D glue ups down. He's going to be one happy birthday guy. ;) Very nice gift.
-
Very nice Nate. Everything looks good. Never heard of coyote. What is it?
-
Thanks Guys!
Pat,
Botanical Name:
Platymiscium polystachyum
Other Names:
Coyote, Granadillo, Guayacan trebol, Jacaranda do brejo, Koenatepi, Macacauba, Macawood, Trebol
I made a bamboo backed RD out of it but it fretted pretty bad, still shoots but I worry when it will go. Someday I will try a less stressed version of bow with it and maybe use a hickory back. It's a nice wood, Dense, like most SA hardwoods.
-
That one turned out nice!! He'll have a great birthday, remember mines in August so you've got plenty of time. ;D Scott
-
Thanks Scott! I'll keep that in mind ;D Thanks for the help with the handle, I think I need to round it a bit more next time, but don't think it's too bad for my first dished pistol type grip.
-
That is smokin'! Nicely done. :o
-
Another masterpiece. Looks great!
-
YEs, that is a fine looking bow! Kinda looks like mine posted earlier.
Congratz on a fine bow!
-
Thanks Adam, Cam, and Eastern. You are right Eastern, very similar profiles ;) You're finish work is in a whole nother league though. Nice job with that.

Oh I dunno! I like the satin finish on yours....just blinged up the one I did cuz some peole like that shine....he'll likely never use it to hunt other than the odd bunny stomp. Seems we both held about the same amount of relfex too. How cool is that! And the grips aren't that different either.
I think the next one I do(like this weekend ::)) will have a satin finish...maybe.....we'll see! sigh! another Christmas bow...
-
Eastern, I meant less the "finish" and more the overall aesthetics that I consider finish work, tip overlays, Dye job on your bamboo, which was incredible by the way, shaping the handle, that sort of stuff. I'm still not at the skill level in those areas that you obviously are. I'm just now starting to get better at that stuff. I'm also starting to enjoy putting effort into those areas. It used to be "hey, it shoots, what else do you want?" ;D LOL
-
Dang Nate...You are pumping out some Nice Bows....Maybe after Hunting Season...I'll have some time for one again....maybe.... ;)
-
Nate, your bows get better and better every time!
Love the braced and full draw pic!

NTS, OK i gotcha now...Well, some say I'm perfectionist...I say why not do the best job possible in all respects if your going to put the work into building a shooting bow. Just my philosiphy.
-
Thanks Mike and Frank!
Eastern, Yeah I'm adopting that pohilosphy now too, just need the skills to catch up with the desire ;D I guess previous;y it was just an accomplishment that they were shooters ;)
-
Very nice Nate!
Tiller looks spot-on. Really like the use of different woods. Question...You mentioned jacaranda as one of the names for the Coyote wood. Does that have a purpleish bloom in the spring? If it is the same I have a tree in my back yard that has a natural r/d in one of the big limbs. Been lookin at it for a couple of years. Funny how trees go from beauty and shade to bow wood after the bug bites ;D.
God bless
Ron
-
Thanks Ron,
I'm not sure about the tree in your yard. I got the wood from a local hardwood specialty store and copy and pasted the info from their website. But you'll never know until you try ;D
-
very nice bow ! when i grow up i wanna build em too !
still cant figure out where the tree came from in your back yard, i couldnt find any in the four years i was out there
-
Thanks Ken but you got it backwards, When I grow up I wanna build bows like you.... ;D >:D
-
WOW Thats sure is pretty, brace and full draw perfect you've got serious talent-Hammertime
-
Nate, you really out did yourself with this one my friend. Just an all around beautiful bow. Got it bookmarked for November Backed BOM contest too. :)
-
Thanks Hammertime and Josh. It was fun making this bow and it's definitely my best performer so far.
-
You did a good job on this one ! Tiller looks about perfect. 8)
-
Nate, that tiller is SWEET! You have been hinting at this one, and I've been waiting. It was worth it. Man, you're getting good at this.
-
Thanks Ryan and Eddie.
Eddie, I'd like to think I'm making progress ;D What I lack in natural ability I try to make up for in shear boneheadedness 8)
and 34 days 12 hours and 4 minutes of time of PA staring at full draw pics and unstrung profiles......
-
Great job Bud!Its a beauty!He'll be tickled "oxblood"! ;)
-
Nice looking bow,very well done.
Pappy
-
Thanks Randy and Pappy. No pink on this one though ;D I have a tri-lam BBO that I'm going to be starting soon thinking of trying yellow under the gopher snake skins...I'm good with the pink for awhile :-\
-
;) i liked it!! i think the yellow should be a very interesting color variation, cant wait to see it!!
-
Well I liked it to until my wife said I needed to accessorize and I started wearing a pink armguard, pink tab, pink fletching on my arrows, lord knows I had to stop when she pointed out the pink leather pants >:D
-
Pretty in Pink!!! 8) I was jus kiddin when i called you a bowmo in that P.M. ;) ;D ;D ;D Thats not a good thought!!As long as ur not wearin pink thongs we'll let it slide!Hahaha
-
I'll never tell.... O:)
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Looks great. Gotta love that tiller :o
-
Wow! :o You da man! 8) That is as good as it gets, on brace, and tiller! ;) That full draw says it all. You certainly are doing something right! That is a beautiful bow Nate.
Wayne
-
Bowmo... good one! :P
-
Thanks Jesse and Wayne. Randy, I think we have a member named Bowmo.... :-\
-
Nate are you saying I didnt make that up all by myself? :'(Lmao
-
Haha...yea..that's me!
-
Beaurtiful tiller.
Del
-
Looks like someone drew that tiller on with a pencil and compass.
-
What I find impressive is its unstrung profile vs. its full draw. Also, thats a premium piece of boo. What? 4 nodes.
How long is your power lam and handle (non bending)? When you cut your shelf, is it to center?
-
Like everything about it,good job Nate.
-
Wow guys, didn't expect to see this thread resurrected after so long :)
Thanks for the compliments guys. This has undoubtedbly been my best bow. I love everything about it and have kidded my buddy about trading him another bow so I could get this one back >:D It is easy to brace because of the mild R/D, very stable, FAST although I wish I had a Chrono so I could get real numbers, Doesn't stack, and is very quiet.
BigCountry,
Yep 4 nodes on the boo. The power lam is 14" The longest lam used to build up the riser was 11", after shaping and a little bit of work in the fades it ends up just over 10" usually. The shelf isn't cut quite to center, I only recently made one cut to center.
Thanks again for the compliments. The trade bow I will be building will be as much a replica to this bow as possible, in so far as unstrung, braced and FD profiles. It will be much prettier though, and I'll probably go even skinnier on the tips.
