I cut the Hazel in August, it seems to like being seasoned quickly.
It's the first bow I've heat treated from start to finish, as a result it's got less set than my other Hazels. On the down side, there are a couple of tiny chrysals on the lower linb, hence the epoxy soaked linnen thread whipping.

I've made a really tiny grip as the bow is rather short for a Hazel bow (60"), it's also narrower than ideal being from a quarter of the log (I saved the nicest piece as a half log).
The small grip works well and is very comfortable, there's a small window for the arrow, no shelf (not the done thing in the UK old chap ;) ). It's got my usual W/B horn mini nocks and arrow pass.

Here's the full draw shot, 36# @ 28"

I havn't shot it through the chrono yet, but I think it's pretty quick for a 36 pounder.
Hope you like

Very Nice Dell, Like the way the wood looks on the back. I too, like the small grips for shooting off the hand.

Very nice Del. Love the natural cambium back and the tiller looks great! Congratulations

Hi Del, I haven't worked with hazel much, but I'ce got a couple of staves seasoning. This is an inspiration to get them out! Nice bow! I like the little grooves filled with cambium. Ron

Sweet looking Bow .....make a good Squirrel Sticker....

Very nice design! I'm slowly working on a hazelnut stave. It is about 62" long. Hoping to keep it up around 55#. How thick are your limbs?

Cheers guys,
Her's a pic of one of the nocks which also shows a good deep groove, I spent a fair bit of time picking the cambium out with a knife point and needle file, but it was worth it as otherwise the Hazel is a bit featureless.

You can see the grain runs at a slight angle, that's another reason why it ended up a tad narrower than I originally planned.

Here you go, excuse the mix of inches & mm, but I find it convenient, I'd have made it about 1/4 - 1/2" wider at the widest point if the wood had allowed it and about an inch longer.
I'VE JUST EDITED IT, AS WITH AND THICKNESS WERE WRONG WAY ROUND!!!
I can't seem to copy in a table and the editor screws it up... it looks ok in preview though >:(
Hope it makes sense, it's distance from nock followed by width and thickness.
Dist
from WIDE THICK
nock mm mm
4” 20 10.2
8 25.2 12 bump
12 30.2 12.4
16 32.3 12.9
20 36.9 14.2bump
24 40.3 13.1
27 42 14.1
Note the last measurment is only 2" along from the previous one as its getting into the fade after that.
'bump' refers to a natural bump on the back, the belly is pretty flat, there's a fair bit of crown on the stave, but I wanted to make one without de-crowning for a change.

This is the tree I cut it from.
No prizes for spotting the potential staves...you couldn't resist cutting it either could you?

Hi Russ
I've sent 3 pics to your E-mail (one at a time as they are quite big files)

Sweet little bow. I especially like the fine tip work.

Cool little bow, Del. I can't believe at how much the wood and back pattern reminds me of the Casuarina (Australian Pine) that I'm playing around with lately. The Casuarina has even more lace than that, color is similar also. Very nice job tillering.
Cheers.
