I don't often get a request for a take-down but a fellow in Georgia asked me to build him one a few weeks ago. The bow I made him is much the same as a bow I wrote about a few years ago, a 3 piece take-down that will break down to under 30". It's 60" long overall and the limbs are just under 1 1/4" wide tapering to 3/8" at the nocks. The handle is a laminate of Bloodwood, Hickory and Ash. The limbs are held down by 2 Brass bolts and the nut are glued into some Deer antler. The bow pulls just under 60# @ 26". Here's a couple pictures

Nice looking bow, Marc. No plumbing parts in this one! I bet it shoots sweet. :)
-
Too Cool! 8) How do these perform compared to a similar profile non takedown?
-
Good looking take down, that's got to be a shooter. I like that system, may have to try it
someday. :)

Thanks guys
It shoot really well and for a 26" draw quite fast

Sweet, Neat and Petitte!
Would love to hunt that one, Marc! Great as always, sir!
-
That is way cool, especially knowing that this bow is unique and not just a mass produced model.
-
Thanks guys.
The limbs are 27" long so that is the length it would pack down to. Lots of work goes into making one of these.
-
Really like that design. Bet that would be a lot of fun to take on a hike.
-
Thanks for the pics. I always like seeing your bows. I visit your web site sometimes when I need a bow fix. Jim

Very nice bow Marc. I Really like this design. The colors in it are outstanding! Care to post a full draw for BOM? :)
-
Marc, another very nice bow from the Ironwood Bowyer.

Hey Marc nice lookin' bow my walnut makeover I posted earlier this month is patterned after your bow like this,it's a great way to save an old bow or use 2 shorter staves anyways nice work-Hammertime

Thanks guys.
This is the third bow I make like this and if I made more of them I think would rig up some jigs to make the job easier.
Josh. I could post a full draw but I don't really want it entered in BOM; note change in title.

P.S. This is while I was tillering the bow out

Really nice!!! I love it! question, the limb pads what angle are they cut at, and how did you lay that riser out? thanks JEFFW
-
That's very nice. Even the serving on the string loops adds to the beauty and symmetry of the bow. I don't see a pin for indexing like is sometimes used on a 3-piece glass laminated bow. How do you keep the limb tips in alignment? Anyway, that really is a gorgeous bow. Thanks for posting it.

Jeff. The angle is shallow, maybe 15 degrees, but I couldn't tell you exactly what it is. The layout was a picture in my mind
George. If you look at the picture of the bow taken apart you will see the brass pin that keeps the limbs aligned
-
Full Draw looks perfect. Great bow Marc. :)

great as always! one thing i really want to ask about is your string. Could you post a bit about how you make your strings? it looks like an endless loop. All i have ever made are flemish twist strings, but really would like to try something with a little less creep.

I like this design Marc. Ill bet it is difficult to get the alignment perfect on the limbs.
