I'm starting on some, but they're shorter staves (55-60"), so I'm going wide, as well.  We'll see!

Thanks for the info guys. I know it won't rot.lol I would imagine it make a pretty stiff bow. And Ken, I will watch for the splinters. Would frets be a concern , Along the edges ? Anymore than usual ? I am going for a pyramid style 72 inches long 2 to 3 inch at the fades. Does this sound okay ? He has rattle snake skin for decor and a snapping turtle for the handle and tip overlays. I will post pics, when it is done. Any  ideas or concerns let me know now. lol  Thanks Denny   P.S. If I recall it is a colorful wood , Hate to cover with snake skin. Does anyone know how to process the snake skin. The oke, only knows how to kill them and skin, not process or ship.lol These things I need to help him with also. I always bought mine thru the mail .

Denny i dont think you have worries with compression failure with that design. far as the skin just sun dry for a day and the dampen it when you glue it on. rub it down gently to remove the glue bubbles, trim when it tacks up
