This is my first character bow and first osage build.Special thanks to gstoneburg.this has been a tricky stave and when i flipped da tips one of em split and i had to shorten it an Inch and a half.hence the name outta whack, and the limbs are on two different planes,Pretty cool.

I do love osage bows!! Never get tired of seeing new ones and yours is no exception :) lovely character you got there.
Del, it's been a stone-splitting day here across the river ;)
-
Ah, such a beauty with all those curves. What a challenge to coerce into decent tiller!
-
Thanks guys, should have some tiller pics up on monday, got somethin special for this one, hope to have it on and wrapped up mid week.
-
Here it is unstrung, Braced and tillered to bout 15 inches. It has good weight i'm at 40 at 15 so i think my 55 goal is doable.Got some limb twist to take out then i will tiller it on out, hopefully round midweek or so.

love seein how ya'll work around those curvy limbs.
I think it takes a lot of CHARACTER to work on those character bows...

Randy, that looks GREAT!! You did that stave proud, and it wasn't an easy one. That should spit the arrows out with authority. Congratulations. It is neat to see what you did with that old, borer infested, crooked piece of wood. I can see Parker is in very good hands with his bowyer training. Can't wait for the finished pictures...and then the pictures with game...

As long as it has good Thwack who cares if it is outta whack. ;D

28 0n wheelies ::)sorry it was buggin me
-
I was pretty sure I knew what you meant. My draw length is shorter than it used to be on compounds too.
George
-
george,Me too.I cant wait should have some completely finished pics up friday,i'm finishin up handle now.
Ridgerunner-this bow has alot of thwack with dead zero handshock, shoots quicker than my uncles glassbow!! ;D
Scott- thanks man,its been a pain in the ::) but its came together well!got skins on,dye is done, handle is under consttruction and unique floppy finished.hope to get a coat of oil on it tonight before bed.I'm really stoked about this bow.Took me four to get a shooter but i think #5 is gonna be my hunter ;D ;D
-
Finished her up this evening.Josh ready for bom now ;) Special thanks to Gstoneburg for makin this bow possible.Heres the stats:
56.5"NTN
62#@26"
Limbs are 1" at handle straight to last 10" tapers to 7/16"
1/4" long X 3/16"wide pin nocks
Backed with burmese python courtesy of NateD.
Handle is Jute Wrap (Massey finish to strengthen split in handle)topped with leather (courtesy of Mullet)
Deer track Floppy rest backed with Burmese
Slightly Flipped Tips Dyed with Black and Scarlett Rit Dye
1.5"set relaxin to 3/4" an hour or so after shooting
This bow Really tested what little skill i have and just about had me pullin my hair out.The tiller was my problem area so on this bow I really slowed it down and went with the wood. Heat treated the belly and removed what twist i could.Bottom limb is 1.5" shorter than the top due to a split while flipping the tips.Overall this bow tested me and in the end we pulled it together and agreed that it would stay together and shoot hard.It really zips one with alot of thwack!!Hand shock is nearly absent and it is whisper quiet.Special thanks to all who contributed to this bow and to Josh for doing a superb job with the BOM contest. Thanks for looking and Enjoy!!

Thanks Nate.I'll get ya some better pics of the skin it came out pretty good, but i think it couldve been better, granted tho this is my first skin job so Ya I'm tickled! The strike plate jus popped in my head as i was finishin up the rest!
-
Looks like you used the center pattern of the skin. I like it. Did you dye the bow black before putting the skins? It's a very different appearance than the natural burmese but it sure looks nice very camo looking ;D
One note on the strike plate. I used a piece of gopher skin on my HBO and it works nice but it wore through the single layer of skin a little quicker than I expected had to put another 2 layers on it. Probably not the case with the burm skin being so much thicker but something to keep an eye out for. congrats again, looks great, those limbs being on different planes would have messed me all up.
-
Its always good to see a real set of nocks on a bow. Very nice.
-
Nate good eye,i thought the center pattern would give me more contrast.I noticed the strike plate is wearing very quick,I'm goin to try and get some more finish on it in hopes of hardening it and makin it a bit more durable.
GMC-i thought that overlays would ruin this bow and that the pins just go right with it!
-
"limited skill" my butt... ;D Great job getting such a short, powerful bow out of that funky chunk of wood!
-
superglue will work over snakeskin, although you have to be careful so it doesnt get cloudy. its a pretty tough finish and might work for the strikeplate.
-
Thanks Postman ;D
Walkabout-i'm rethinking the strike plate more along Nates route.More layers of snakeskin, put some tung on it heavy and i dont like it.I think it needs to be softer. Thanks for the tip though!
-
Randy, from the skins, leather and that crooked piece of 'Sage,, You did that bow justice. I think you have a fine "Hunter". Well done.
-
I looked at this a few times and it's quite impressive love the snake skin and handle wrap good luck with the hunt.Hammertime
-
Thanks you guys,I cant wait to get my hands on another crooked one!Hammertime, that handle wrap just sits in your hand perfect, rolled edge makes it jus kinda hang from top of hand! Now i jus need to improve my lacing ;D
-
Randy, there's more crooked ones where that one came from, believe me. When you bring that one down to hog hunt, I'll send you home with a couple more to play with.
George
-
;D ;D George your alright!Parker has been asking me about when hes gonna get to go kill a pig!he overheard me and his mom talkin bout it ;) let me tell ya thats all i hear when we goin hog huntin when we goin dove huntin?LOL he got a bad report from school(not payin attention so his bow and hunting got put on hold)hopefully he will be able to work on it this weekend. He wants to enter it in our annual arts and crafts festival and this week he has been doin better,he gets a weekly report and says hes been doin good this week.!We both are really lookin forward to comin down!It wont get here soon enuf!lol
-
Well, you tell Parker that my invitation to go hog hunting is contingent on his doing his best at school. Parents have a tough enough time motivating their kids, I want to do anything I can to help.
Speaking of hogs...sadly, the acorns must've started falling someplace because they suddenly disappeared from the lease. This happens quite often down here, whenever we get enough rain to make acorns. Consequently I sat in blinds for about 12 hours this weekend (all when I could/should have been sleeping) and saw 1 raccoon. They'll be back. Gonna take me a few days to recover from the sleep deprivation.
-
thanks george I'll tell him. Hate you didnt see any hogs they'll be back! Now catch up on some sleep ;)
-
Glad to see this one finished up! We'll see it again for Sept BOM contest! :)
-
Thanks josh,it shoots like a dream, havent got to chrono it yet but it slings a 600+ grain arrow 208yds! ;D Hope to blood it this fall!
