This is my first bow with Hophornbeam... I cut the tree down in February or March, the bow is 66" NtN, 58 lbs @ 28". The tips touch the floor when laid on its back directly after unstringing and pulls back into around 1.5 inches of reflex within the hour. This was my first successful attempt at flipping the tips with dry heat too. No tip overlays or handle wood laminations. I decided to make this one as simple as possible because I feel I was kinda getting away from the real reason I started this hobby. And besides... The less stuff glued on, the less stuff can go wrong when it counts, right? I really like the way this one shoots. As always, here's my bow's "photo shoot" ::) Hope you like it guys, thanks for looking. :)

Nice bow there Josh, i bet it shoots fast !? I like HHB for a bow.
-
Beautiful work! Love the strung profile, and the tiller is perfect as usual.
-
Talk about going to the heart of primitive archery! Nice, man, nice.
-
Thanks John! It is pretty fast, I am weirdly accurate with it compared to shooting some of my other bows... Even though I am shooting around a wider handle... It's weird...
Thanks Zen! ...it has a little wiggle in the bottom limb where a knot developed on the belly while tillering but I think it is still okay.
Thank you JW! Means alot, man.
-
really nice looking bow josh. I like it a lot.
wade
-
That's a beauty for sure. Very nice curves on that bow.
-
Beautiful work.. I only see one thing wrong with it... It's shooting the arrow one wrong side of the bow >:D ;D
-
Sure is Good to see good Bows 8) Josh, what is the diameter of your string grooves?
-
Another nice bow Josh. I love the classic lines and look of this one!
-
Thank you Wade!
Thanks GMC!
Thank You Hillbilly! I knew SOMETHING was wrong with it... ::) ;)
Thanks Phillip, the string grooves were cut with the smallest chainsaw file I could find. :)
Thanks Josh O. ! :)
-
DANG IT MAN ! i told you before your holdin it wrong , arrow goes on the other side . , lol nice bow simpler is better just in case we forgot. you keep that fuzz growin and you'll look like patb shooting. very nice tiller!!
-
LOL thanks Ken.. I think... ;D
-
I like it....sweet and simple....bet it shoots better than you do... O:)....and drop that Dang Elbow....... ;D...... >:D
-
Thanks, Mike! ...the only time my elbow is up that high is when I am taking a full draw picture and the bow is straight up and down... It doesn't do that whenever I am in my normal shootin stance and the bow is canted at a 45... it's really strange... :)
-
That's an excellent bow Josh. I like that style of profile.
-
Just giving you a hard time.... :P
-
Thanks alot Gordon!
I know, Mike... ::) ;D
-
Next to Vine Maple...Hop Hornbeam is about my Favorite White Wood....
-
Very nice!
Is it bending in the handle? Is it inspired by the Hazelbuildalong?
-
Now that is a nice bow. HHB is one of my favorite whitewoods. Thanks for sharing.
-
Nice work, love it. Got to love HHB.It is great bow wood and you done it proud. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks TBod... Maybe a little inspired by the hazelnut buildalong, I think it is bending right up to the handle but not through it.. I can't feel it bending anyways but I know if I would have narrowed the handle anymore it would... :)
:) Thanks Dean!
Thank you Pappy! :)
-
That's a mighty fine looking bow, Josh.
-
Thanks, Steve!
-
Love the lines on that bow, very elegent.
-
Thank you Scowler.. Much appreciated! :)
-
Josh, it looks as though you have made another nice one. Looks good.
-
Thanks LombarD! I guess it is also in the running for July Self BOM too. :)
-
That's a nice one, Josh. I had simple in mind also when I made that short one last month.
-
Thanks Mullet! I really liked yours as well... Can't believe the bend you got out of it. :)
-
Great bow Josh, You did a fine job on that piece of HHB.
-
GREAT bow Josh simple and sweet .To me you are shooting the bow with the arrow on the right side ;D us southpaws gotta stick together.hammertime
-
Thank you Rick. It was my first one and definitely will not be my last one, this wood was a dream to work... :)
Thanks Hammertime... I am afraid we're severely outnumbered though... ;D
-
Very nice lines, would like to see a "photo shoot" ;D of that arrow too, looks good with that bow.
Jeff
-
