Title: Simple HHB with flipped tips
Post by: Josh on July 11, 2010, 09:37:04 pm
This is my first bow with Hophornbeam... I cut the tree down in February or March, the bow is 66" NtN, 58 lbs @ 28". The tips touch the floor when laid on its back directly after unstringing  and pulls back into around 1.5 inches of reflex within the hour. This was my first successful attempt at flipping the tips with dry heat  too.  No tip overlays or handle wood laminations.  I decided to make this one as simple as possible because I feel I was kinda getting away from the real reason I started this hobby.  And besides... The less stuff glued on, the less stuff can go wrong  when it counts, right?  I really like the way this one shoots.  As always, here's my bow's "photo shoot"  ::)   Hope you like it guys, thanks for looking.   :)

Talk about going to the heart of primitive archery!  Nice, man, nice.

Thanks John!  It is pretty fast, I am weirdly accurate with it compared to shooting some of my other bows... Even though I am shooting around a wider handle... It's weird...

Thanks Zen!   ...it has a little wiggle in the bottom limb where a knot developed on the belly while tillering but I think it is still okay.

Thank you JW!  Means alot, man.

Thanks, Mike!  ...the only time my elbow is up that high is when I am taking a full draw picture and the bow is straight up and down... It doesn't do that whenever I am in my normal shootin stance and the bow is canted at a 45... it's really strange...  :)

Very nice!

Is it bending in the handle? Is it inspired by the Hazelbuildalong?

Thanks TBod... Maybe a little inspired by the hazelnut buildalong, I think it is bending right up to the handle but not through it.. I can't feel it bending anyways but I know if I would have narrowed the handle anymore it would...  :)

 :) Thanks Dean!

Thank you Pappy!   :)

Thank you very much, Jawge!   :)

If I keep shooting this one as good as i have been, then I am DEFINITELY taking it to Pappy's next year.  Hope to see ya there again next year, Jesse!   :)  The weather forecast is supposed to be sunny with highs in the Mid 70's with no chance of rain...  ;D
