I made this the other day and just finished it today, I made it for a gathering of all the Algonkins in Ontario. Don't know what the stone is, very white and flakes well and no it is not Johnstone. Maybe somebody out there knows what it is? The sheath is brain tanned Deer hide.

Wow, Marc! That is swet. You must have been a Closet Knapper all these years. Is that rock Novaculite?
-
I just got lucky Eddie :). I don't know what type of rock it is but would like to find out. I got it from an older guy that used to make bows here, he did a bit of knapping also.
-
Very nice knife Marc! looks like novac or stuff I got from Missouri

Thanks guys
The stone is bone white but does become a bit translucent at the tip and at the base. You can see the line where it changes at the base in this picture

Very nice blade, and I like the way it is hafted.

Great looking knife Marc! Don't know what kind of rock it is, lot's of whiteish stuff around here but doubt that came from TX.
-
Very nice knife, I really like the handle.
-
Thanks guys.
I have finished dressing up the sheath. Doesn't look too bad if I say so myself

That be prime looking work. (Gets a guy thinking outside the box) Good pic's. I've got some snow white petrified wood from saddle mountains here in Washington, that looks alot like that material. ' Frank

its novaculite :)
Comes from around Hot springs arkansas.
-
Top photo is a dead give away.
Notice the change in the material from were its chipped, only novaculite changes that much with heat. Also notice the little zigzag inclusion top right of the piece, thats very common in novaculite and the little pink specs are also common in novaculite :)

Thanks.

Threw me for a loop there with the Sheath Marc. I saw the rattles and was thinking boy that sure doesn't look like rattler skin. Burmese or Rock python skin, right?
The whole package looks nice though.
