Another pine tree ;D
The obsidian blade is from a chunk that Stickbender gave me. That stuff takes a little getting used to.
The coyote knife blade is a little piece of low grade flint river. It was just the opposite of the obsidian. You gotta knock the snot out of it! I like the lower grade flint river though. It has nice colors and is tough enough to make a good knife.
The pine tree was like baby bear soup...juuust right. It's a piece of Dover chert that Jesse gave me and is my favorite point yet.
I soaked that jaw in strong coffee for 3 days to give it that color. How's it look?

Pine tree looks second best to me? ::) ;)
Like the yodel dog jaw knife. Perty cool stuff there S.F.
-
wow that stuff is great. makes me super jealous, wish i could produce stuff like that

Dang boy, them's some nice'uns! :o Yeah, the Obsidian, takes a lot less bop to flake off. Some of it can just be plain brittle. I have had pieces from the same big chunk, that will behave differently.

Hey Eddie, how about we get Outback to send that POFR/LEAVERITE to Shannon, and see if Mr. Smartypants, can make a pinetree out of that!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Jamie, to get those serrations I work off a continuous platform centered on the edge of the point. I run flakes across the face with the red arrow first...from base to tip. I do that on each side. Then I go back and abrade the hollows left from the first pass on the opposite side (the one with the green arrow). I do that with a diamond file and abrade towards the face I plan to flake next. Abrading towards the last face brings the edge/platform back closer to center. I flake he last pass from tip to base. Once that is done, it's a matter of fine tuning the points on the serrations and slightly hollowing them out.

Stickbender sounds like a good idea to me ::) I,m almost sure he could get something respectiful out of that boat anchor. Shannon all three look exceptional but I like the coyote jaw knife the best. Had to laugh your trying to put some age on that jaw an yesterday I was cleaning an peroxideing a coyo skull, trying to see how white I could get it. ;D Bob
