Just got this Osage D finished up...This is my second shooter and first D bow. It measures 51" ntn and is unbacked. It pulls 55#@ 26" and believe it or not it does not stack much. The string angle at 26" is 73 degrees. I shot it through a chronograph and it shot 144 fps with a 511 gr. cedar arrow. It is a 1 1/4" at the fades and slowly tapers to 1/2" at the cherokee style tips. The handle is 5" and is wrapped with a layer of Jute and then dyed buck skin. The two arrow rests are made from turkey nails. I know you normally shoot these bows off your hand but at the this point feel more comfortable shooting off a shelf. I made it so a right hander can shoot it either way. The paint is Acrylic and the finish is spar urethane. The string is B-50 dacron and the silencers are muskrat. The lettering on the belly is written in Cherokee. I don't know if I can technically call this a Cherokee D bow because of the length and the paint, but it was painted by my mother who is 1/4 Cherokee. I named the bow after her......Painted by a Cherokee mother. She just lost her boyfriend to Cancer and I gave her this project to help keep her mind off things.......and it did. The only thing I want to do to it now is make some matching sticks and make a tip protecter.

This is one of the best looking native designs I've seen. Awesome.

A beautiful bow, but almost more importantly, a great connection for you and your mother.

one fine example of a native bow....no doubt about it. Tell the women they did that paint proud.

That's a great bow - nice to carry around I'll bet. The paint and story are what really make it. Great job!
-
Really dig the artwork!! Don't see why you can't call it a Cherokee bow. If your mother is one fourth Cherokee, that makes you Cherokee, therefore the bow is Cherokee. Keep up[ the good work. Looking forward to more bows.

Very nice except send some of that snow to Montana! we are very dry state-wide. Bookmarked your bow for Feb Self BOM fun if that's all right with you.

Thats a nice one! I like D- Bows, but I`m ashamed I only made one! They are very comfortable to shoot and they are easy to tiller. They use the entire length, so that the full draw compares in width and length of a bow results in a short useful weapon.
Hope I wrote this correct!?

Thank You guys for the kind remarks. I will be sure to pass the compliments about the paint onto my mother. This is very special bow for me.....Gonna have to make another one for hunting now......lol. This bow making is fun stuff......I'm glad I finally got around to doing it.....I've always wanted to since i was a kid.
Thanks Again Jon

That bow is SWEET. Great job on the tiller to get 26" out of a 51" bow. Also really like the artwork. Fine bow, you should be proud of that one.

Thank you Sander and Rick..........I was worried that I wouldn't get my draw with the bow being unbacked. I originally had it backed with sinew, but the dog got a hold of it and chewed it off. That literally ate up my supply of sinew (lol) and I wasn't going to buy any more. So I decided to just go for it. The osage I am using is eleven years old and I had a beautiful, flat, thick growth ring to follow.
