Osage backed Ipe,61" ntn 49#@ 28". I split 2 kerfs in each of the tips then heat bent them to my form. Then glued back in some ipe slivers. Glued it up straight, and it has taken 1" of set.
Copperhead skins and a tennis handle wrap. Nuthin real fancy just functional. Shoots well, seems to have good manners.

i always thought it sounded funny when someone called a bow sexy, but NTD is right. What a bow!!
-
could you explain how you made the osage backing??? please please
-
Boy! That turned out a sharp little bow, Tim! ;D
When you gonna try an ipe backed osage?
-
Man, that is a super bow. Excellent finish. Tiller is perfect. An unusual wood combo. Very nice work!!!
-
That's a beauty,great job.God Bless
-
Thanks all.
Sulphur, I had some big logs sawn last year, now I just resaw the boards down, and run them through my thickness sander.
Shannon, I have already made plans for that one, gotta get this vine maple done first.:)
-

The drawn profile looks PERFECT to me; love the line at the tips!
-

Very nice indeed. I like a little more bend in the outer mid limbs on my recurves, but it looks pretty darn good. :)
-
Thanks again everyone, this is my first attempt at using ipe, interesting stuff for sure. More planned with it.
Ryano, I agree with the mid to outer mid, needing more bend, however so slight, transferring more work over the entire limb.I imagine that if I would have caught that sooner this bow may not have taken any set? I'll do another one later, and will give it more attention,as for now there are many others that need finished. ;)
-
fancy enough
-
I REALLY like that bow! Beautiful color combo
-
Love the bow and the understated way you describe it, nothing real fancy! Modest sir, very modest. You are an inspiration.

Any chance to hear more about that?? Any photos of the work in progress even...???
Again: sweet bow!

beautiful bow Tim
-
This is a serous contender for Feb Laminate Bow of the Month. Wonderful symmetrical limbs and craftsmanship
-
Snake skin isn't my thing, but it is a very pretty bow. I love that recurve look!
-
"Nuthin real fancy just functional."
That cracks me up :D :D :D

Well thanks again to all who have giving such good comments.
Medicinewheel, I didn't take any pics of the process other than some early tiller pics. I plan on doing another one soon so I will take some pics for ya and show how I do the tips. nuthin toit. ;)
And as for my "nuthin fancy" comment. I was mainly going off of all the bows you guys post on here. Now them is fancy! ;)
-
Your to humble Mr Ott, your attention to detail is beyond most, you and Gordan are quite the bowyers and inspire people to strive to that level.

MAN!!! I can't stop coming back and looking at this bow!!! You did an amazing job, sir! :) -josh

Tim, The bow looks real sweet. How hard was it to get the Ipe to bend around that curve? I'm just wondering if certain looking boards bend easier that others..

-
Very nice Tim, its stunning :)
-
Another fine bow Tmo.
The backing is just plain sawn (or quarter?) osage, with ring violations?
I could see a plain sawn backing where you case the back ring, but just a flat backing I'm surprised it worked over ipe.
-
Thanks all,
JD, I just build bows and try to make them look the way I see them before I start. Putting me in the same sentence with Gordon? You make me feel beyond my capabilities. How bout you slap some pics up of them cadillac bows you build?
Richard, With the kerfs sawn in it bent very easy.
Mims, The osage was quarter sawn. (or what I call 1/4) edge grain if you will?Actually it was from some of the slats I made last winter,I saved me some full length primo stuff just to try this out. The rings run end to end without waiver. Holding so far.

Great looking bow! I like the wood combo and the skins too. I bet it's fast too! Congratulations on a job well done! :)
-
That is one beauty of a weapon Tim! I thought it was some kind of Star Wars bow at first glance with the OBI title ;D.
-
Looking forward to handling that little jewel at Ojam
-
That's a really nice bow Tim, very unique
-
Howdy TimO,
I too am very interested in seeing some pic.s and more discussion on how you kurfed the tips. The tips are so thin at that point, I can't imagine how you were able to put one (much less two) kurf cuts into the tips. ???
Pictures Please!!!
Oh, BTW, I really like this beautiful bow. As someone else had said, it inspires the rest of us. :D
Thanks for sharing,
Canoe

Great looking bow, I am a newbie so I have two questions. What type of glue did you use ont he limb tips ? and what is the hole for on the limb tip ??
Thanks
Dwight

Thanks again folks.
Canoe, I plan on doing a little picture thingy sometime on how I do my kerfs. Patience grasshopper! ;)
Pdwright, I use CA glue,(industrial super glue) I use the 25 second set,but about any will work. The hole in the limb tip is for a string keeper.
