I'm fairly new to the group but heard about a possible Glass Buttes knapp in... anyone know if that's happening this year and when it might be??? Thanks, Yokut
-
Glass Butte Knappin is always the last week of March. so this year it would be March 20 -28th People filter in on that first weekend then through out the week some come and some go depending on how far they are traveling. Be perpared for rain, sleet, hail, snow or sun and warm. ::) really a great bunch and allot of fun with as much obsidian as you can haul.
-
Thanks Keenan, I sure like the sounds of an END of March date better though! Gonna be a bit nippy I'd think. :o I should be able to attend at least one or two of those days. Most likely somewhere between Feb. 26-28th. - Yokut

I'm sure that Myself, Dave aka Juniper Junkie and Blacktail will all be out there for some of it. And Of coarse the famous monster blade technician Emory Coons will be there. If you have never seen him dissect a three foot diam. chunk of obsidian it is a real treat. He can usually turn it into a bunch of huge usable spalls and leave the core as a blade. He's made many over 2 feet long and several three footers.

Keenan,
Did you maybe mean March 27th - April 4th?
Tell

Oops yes thank you for catching that. March 20-28th
-
On the PP calendar page they have it listed as march 20 weekend.....
or did I see that wrong?
Wish I could fly out and make that one.

That could be I am just going off of the past. It's always been the last week to the first of April. I'll make some calls to try to nail it down for sure. yYes looks like it is going to be March 20-28th this year. Sorry for the confusion. I'll check my facts next time instead of going off of past. ::)

YEE HA!.
Think I worked out a deal with my work.
Gotta travel to portland for work for a couple weeks sometime over the next 2 months. Believe I have it worked out so that I got my travel dates to match up with the knapp in. Will do the work trip and stay over the weekend and hit the buttes knapp in.
Looking forward to beating on some glass, bleeding, and socializing with all you PNW knappers!
I will try and be good and not to corrupt Y'all too much with my southern ways. >:D course a little bit of southern hospitality aint all bad.
Y'all are bringing the grits rite? Or do I need to?

Glass Butte Knappin starts this weekend ;D ;D ;D Nice weather and suposed to be sunny all weekend. Night time lows down in the teens but nice in the day time ;D

Dang, Keenan, sure wish I could go. But I am still down here in Florida. Doesn't look like I will be able to move out to Montana, till later. Finances too low. Tell Emory I said hi, and I am still keeping an eye out for a gator jaw for him, and a snake skin for his Dad.

I'll be there this Friday thru next Monday. I am the gray haired guy with a full beard - like that won't fit half of the crowd.... :-) I've only been once and came home with some nice Riley Dacite. I hope to pick up some different varieties this year - I especially like the mahogany if someone can point me in the right direction...

Kieth,
I will be pulling in on the 19th also. I will be in a blue dodge with Riley Concrete on the windows. I am pitching a tent and hanging for the weekend. I would like to get some mahogany also, I will look for ya and we can get together and dig rock!.
Tell

Tell, while you are there, you can, meet Emory Coons. Like they said, he is phenomenal. You can ask him about the Jasper.
Maybe next year, I will be able to go to the knapp in, but I do plan on going back out to Glass butte, when I finally get financially situated, and can move out to Montana, I will be making trips to Oregon.
